They’ve Now Occupied the Park
As I took the bus yesterday to Moorgate, I noticed a lot of tents in Shoreditch Park.
It would appear that the Occupy idiots have decided to ruin someone else’s environment. There’s a report here. Note the commenyts of locals in the report.
Later the bus passed their former site in Finsbury Square.
So it’s probably been cleaned before they left, but this time last year, it was grass and flower beds.
Dustin Hoffman Saved My Life
This is the headline in a story in The Sun.
It concerns a man, who collapsed whilst jogging in Hyde Park and it was Dustin Hoffman, who called the ambulance.
All seems to be well now!
Anthony Caro At Canary Wharf
Jubilee Park in Canary Wharf is being used this summer for a series of sculpture exhibitions. The first is of Anthony Caro’s work.
I wonder how many sculpture exhibitions are held on the roof of a station.
The Olympic Legacy
Everybody seems to be complaining that there won’t be any Olympic Legacy. I’ve just had this e-mail read out on Radio 5.
Just compare Manchester after the Commonwealth Games, Sheffield after the World Student Games and Liverpool after the City of Culture with Athens after the Olympics and Montreal after the Olympics.
You can’t say we don’t do legacy. We do it very well!
I could have added, where’s the legacy in Atlanta and my physio from Queensland, doesn’t think there was much legacy after Sydney.
London’s biggest legacy will be the Olympic Park. And no-one who’s ever been over just a few of the UK’s big parks, could not agree that we do parks well. So just as Victoria Park and Hampstead Heath became London’s lungs nearly two centuries ago, the Olympic Park will be London’s park for the 22nd Century.
It’s a pity though London has got no superlambananas or equivalent. They may be rather trivial, but Liverpudlians love them.
Around Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park
This park is based on the old Tower Hamlets Cemetery and is now a nature reserve as well.
I went on Friday to have a look round and took these pictures.
Note the daffodils and the derelict St. Clements Hospital. The War Memorial is still intact and hasn’t suffered from metal thieves.
