Summer Over Haggeston

The blue sky just asked to be photographed.

I wish I’d taken a few more.  But then, if I had, the summer will end before it starts.

Still I did buy a raincoat yesterday and that will put the mockers on it.

Quiet Please

This notice was outside a pub near me.

I think I’ll go and see if the pub is as entertaining as the notice.

A Mess Of Cables

Cables seem to come with the ability to get tangled. I just had to sort this mess out today.

My Unique Dining Room Table

Unique is defined as being unlike anything else or one of a kind. I didn’t make it, as it was made by a furniture maker called Julian Ellis, out of Suffolk Oak. But it was to my design brief.

I wanted an elliptical table, as that gives the most space at mealtimes and also because the ellipse is the perfect shape.  After all, circles are only a specific form of an ellipse with only one focus.

Note how the small leaves drop, so it can go against the wall. This was needed as at Debach, we had a long narrow kitchen.

It must be getting to be near to forty years old and all it will need to see me out is probably a proper polish.

Balls Loses The Next Election For Labour

It is reported today, that Ed Balls has said he will cut the winter fuel payment to wealthy pensioners.

it wouldn’t bother me, as any extra benefits I get from the government, I make sure goes into my charity pot, where I give money to charities that need it for good causes.

Many of those losing their benefit will be Labour voters and this sends a signal, that perhaps some of their other benefits like excellent pensions from public sector jobs might not be safe. So they might think about not voting and some might abstain or worse, as far is Labour is concerned.

I have this view, that politicians of all persuasions and colours are not to be trusted with my money, as they’ll all find vanity projects to waste it on. I won’t name any projects, as I quite like some of them from all sides of the political spectrum, but obviously not all.

Crap Dangerous Staircases Of East London

I have taken some pictures of the staircases in various railway stations across East London.

There is no alternatives to any of these, as they are lift-free stations. So just imagine, how the elderly, those in wheel-chairs and those with buggies cope.

Does Anybody Make An Easy-Clean Potato Masher?

I make a lot of potato pies and the worst thing is cleaning the potato masher. The potato just seems to stick in the holes.

Does Anybody Make An Easy-Clean Potato Masher?

Friends say why don’t I use my dishwasher, but after ten years of tenants, it’s a bit decrepit like me.  I could afford a new one, but I may remodel my kitchen and I don’t want the design to have to be compromised because of an existing dishwasher.

I also find washing up therapeutic for my gammy left hand.

Tottenham On The Up!

I took a 149 bus to Tottenham this morning, to look for a tunnel boring machine, that was being transported to its work site in North London.  I may have missed the TBM, but I got a good chance to look at Tottenham nearly two years after the riots.

Things seemed to have improved immensely.  It also looks like Spurs are getting their act together and are starting to create the new stadium.

Antonio’s Pepolata

I had a problem last night, in that I couldn’t find a suitable sauce for my pies. Last time I used one from Bay Tree, that had been in my cupboard for some time. This time though, the only one i could find was Antonio’s Pepolata from Carluccio’s.

The pies worked out fine, or at least the one I had for supper did.

But even Carluccio’s didn’t really have a suitable sauce.

Why Do I Have To Buy 2.5 Kg Of Potatoes?

I made two chicken, bacon and potato pies last night, but in Waitrose I had to buy 2.5 Kg of potatoes, as they didn’t have any smaller packs or loose ones that were suitable for mashing.

Why Do I Have To Buy 2.5 Kg Of Potatoes?

Why Do I Have To Buy 2.5 Kg Of Potatoes?

As I had to carry them back on a bus, I wasn’t pleased.

My two pies need a kilogram and as i don’t use many the remainder will probably have gone off before I need them.

Is this why we waste so much food?

I just buy what I need to make my meal or in the case of pies, my meal and one a couple of days later.

We need an efficient cooking philosophy that minimises waste, cooking time and washing up.

Some will say this is why ready meals are popular, as all you have to do is stick them in the microwave and wash the plate up at the end. But I have just thrown an unused Marks and Spencer ready meal into the bin, as I bought it in case, I didn’t get any food on my three late nights last week, and it is now well past its sell-by date.
