An Eye for an Eye And We All Go Blind

There is this horrific story from Iran today.

That’s not justice, that’s vengeance.  Iran’s justice sentence may be worse than the United States in that they execute more people, but surely this is a new low?

A Real Hedge Fund

I like this story about how the village of Bratton Fleming in Devon  recycles garden waste as compost.

Surely this is the way to go forward with recycling, as those that recycle get rewarded. I’ve believed for a long time, that bottle and can banks should be linked to community projects.

3D Photography Is Not New

I found this fascinating article on the BBC website. It describes how 3D photography was used by the RAF in the Second World War to unlock the secrets of German missile sites.

I hope that those in the military use drones or high altitude aircraft equipped with such cameras for their reconnaissance today in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The technique might also be useful in assessing things like earthquake damage in remote areas.

How To Dispose of a Silly Hat

Princess Beatrice was  criticised for her hat at the Royal Wedding.

Now according to reports, she has put it on eBay, with the proceeds going to charity.

Good for her! Let’s hope it raises as much money as Myleene Klass’ bikini did!

Greece Melts

I like the Greeks, but it would appear that the rest of Europe will soon lose patience with them.

They had yet another General Strike yesterday and it wasn’t peaceful and quiet.

The Times today says that a Greek default could provoke another banking crisis. Certainly, the amount we’ve lent to Greece borders on the suicidal.

There was also another report last night, where it was said that Greeks were drawing out their money in cash and sending it abroad to safer countries.

I think we should all beware of giving gifts to Greeks.

Top 10 Controversial Adverts

This report on the BBC lists the ten most controversial adverts.

I’ve never seen any of them!

It just shows how much I’m influenced by advertising. The only influence, it would seem to have on me is not to watch or look at it.

The Queen’s In Control

The Queen has released a photograph of herself and her two youngest grandchildren riding together in Windsor Great Park.

It’s here on the BBC.

I’m glad to see The Queen is not wearing a hard hat!

Careless Driving

It is being reported that the government is thinking about bringing in fixed penalties for careless driving.

As a pedestrian, I’d like to see careless  cycling, buggy pushing and obstruction placing dealt with in the same way.

What Will Sepp Blatter Do Now?

Lord Triesman didn’t hold his punches when in front of a parliamentary committee, he accused four FIFA members of improper behaviour over the bidding for the 2018 World Cup.

If I was Lord Triesman, I would take a few places of the list of where I might go for a holiday.

European Court Rules Against Max Mosley

It is being reported that the European Court has ruled against Max Mosley.

My late father would be pleased to have seen this judgment.

He always claimed, that he got Max’s odious father with a tomato in the 1930s. It may even have been at the Battle of  Cable Street. My father was there as a Londoner of Jewish ancestry, so he hated Oswald Mosley with a passion.  Interestingly, my father was very much on the left of the Tory party, and he was not the only person with that political persuasion, who was there to stop Oswald Mosley and his blackshirts marching.
