Look Mum No Hands
This must be the only cycling cafe in London.
The gluten-free cake was nice too. Even if the weather outside was appalling.
The cafe was very busy. It had a buzz about it too. Everybody was watching the cycling in Spain on a big screen.
Both Ways By New Bus For London
I did a quick trip to the Angel and it was both ways on a New Bus for London. In both cases I saw the bus coming and waited a couple of minutes to catch it. I wasn’t the only one either.
On the way up, I heard a rumour that another ten buses are on their way and they will be on route 73.
Whether this is true, I would have no idea, but it is another route like route 38, that is operated by Arriva.
Are Plimsoles On The Way Back?
At school in the 1950s we are wore plimsoles for gym. Just like these.
Except that ours were black and sometimes they had laces. I took the picture on the way back from Blockley. The feet actually belonged to a young lady from Poland, who gave permission for the picture to be taken.
An Advantage Of A Freedom Pass
I have a Freedom Pass and one of the advantages is to go places, you’ve never been before. Today I walked to Dalston Junction station and took the East London line to Brockley station.
In a way it was just to have a coffee at Brown’s of Brockley. As you can see the cafe is just by the station.
Is this an example of how new transport links create employment?
At least the coffee was worth the trip, even if I did return soon after I’d finished my cappuccino.
It’s Grim Up North
The Campaign for Better Transport has just published their report on car dependency in England.
Wigan is the worst, with London and Brighton at the top.
I don’t agree with all their findings, but read the report and make your own.
My argument with their report, is that they don’t talk much about the information systems in the various cities.
To me, this is very important.
Poor Signage At Greenwich
I had intended to get to Deptford, by using the DLR to Greenwich and then changing. It sounds easy, except that the signage at Greenwich wasn’t the best.
In the end I made it, but I just missed one train and had to wait fifteen minutes for the next.
My Son Gets In The Times Again!
I had a letter published in The Times today about the birth of our first son, as Neil Armstrong set off for the moon.
Sir, My late wife gave birth to our first son on July 16, 1969, in the Middlesex Hospital in London, as the astronauts left for the Moon.
From the time of his birth until the Eagle landed, no babies were born in the hospital. Perhaps mothers had something more important on their mind. But after the successful landing, all hell broke loose and there were babies everywhere.
The compositors in The Times may have been in a similar emotional state, as our son’s birth announcement was out of order.
I’ve never seen another birth announcement out of order. But then there were two editions of the paper that night; one said they’d landed and the other said they’d walked on the moon.
Health And Safety Has Its Place
This piece of raised concrete has annoyed me ever since the Emirates Air-Line opened.
So I’m glad to see they’ve marked it with yellow paint. Not that I need any help any more, as my brain has now set its Sat-Nav to warn me to move right, as I approach the area.
My compliments must go to someone, who responded to the problem.
Who Nicked The Seats?
I took this picture this morning at Shadwell station on the DLR.
I did ask and they’ve been removed to make more room during the Olympics.
Look Closely And You Might See It!
If you look closely at this picture taken at Dalston Junction station, you can see that the sign now has the route to Clapham Junction station shown.
But of course it’s covered with something. As the extended East London line doesn’t open until December this year.
