Thank You, London Overground
That is the tone of this article to mark the fifth birthday of the London Overground in Time Out.
I think it shows if you bring in an urban transport system and design it properly, you completely enhance the lives of those it touches.
This country and the world in general needs more Overgrounds! Lots more!
The only problem with the Overground is that its success has meant too many people want to use it. But that is hopefully being solved by adding more and longer trains and the infrastructure to handle them.
With the opening of the new line to Clapham Junction in a few weeks time, I think we’ll see the popularity of the Overground grow.
The only problem with the Overground is that its success has meant too many people want to use it. But that is hopefully being solved by adding more and longer trains and the infrastructure to handle them.
Abu Qatada Is A Joke
The only people who take such as Abu Qatada seriously are the police and the government. And a very few of his supporters!
He should be treated as the silly joke he is and only mentioned in the media, when he turns up in Court on a serious charge.
The phone-in on BBC this morning, just gives his extremist views the oxygen of publicity.
The one positive thing we could do is allow intercept evidence to be used in all Court cases. My late wife felt it would have helped a lot in some of the more grizzly divorces she did.
Seb Coe For London Mayor
He was impressive today on BBC Breakfast.
I think he would make a wonderful successor to Boris. He’s also only 20/1 with Paddy Power.
De-Cluttering My Cards
I have three credit or charge cards at present, Visa, Mastercard and AMEX.
But do I need all three?
1. My VISA card is unusable on the Internet because of Verified By Visa, where I always forget the password and have doubts about its security.
2. My AMEX card is generally used for travel, as that gives me insurance which works.
3. The Mastercard does give me rewards, when I use it in John Lewis.
So the VISA card will go. After all, if it hadn’t been for Olympic tickets, it would have gone a long time ago.
I don’t carry Nectar or any of those wallet fillers, but I carry my EH 111.
LED Street Lights In Sheffield
BBC Breakfast is covering this story in detail.
All street lights in the city are being converted to LED ones, that can be centrally controlled according to the conditions.
I can’t find the story anywhere on the web.
Does it show how low green issues sit in the minds of the average journalist?
Having used LED lights for years, I can’t understand this indifference to a technology that should be rolled out across the country.
An example was given, where Sheffield say they will change the light levels around evening football matches. Bright as they arrive and leave and low during the match.
How for instance are sensible lighting levels going to help in the fight against crime?
A Bank Robber Stuck In A Groove
Apparently, the same bank robber has robbed the same bank twice in five days. It’s here in the Manchester Evening News. this is a paragraph.
Detective Constable Jeanette Lamb, of Stockport CID, said: “The offender has struck at almost the same time of the morning, using a strikingly similar method and wearing an identical outfit so obviously we believe the same person to be responsible for both robberies.
He certainly seems to have found a modus operandi that works.
A Disappointing Starbucks
After Pudding Mill Lane I went to Eastfield to do a bit of shopping in the Marks and Spencer there. I successfully bought the jumper I wanted and some food for tonight.
However, I was not able to buy any coffee.
Because of my stroke and a slightly wonky mouth, I do not drink coffee from cardboard or plastic cups. And that’s all you now get in this branch in Eastfield! They used to have proper mugs before the Olympics.
So I came home thirsty!
But then Eastfield is one of those gluten-free deserts. Now it seems I can’t get a coffee there in Starbucks. I usually drink in one of their stores, as I can have something to eat if I want.
I Like This Safety Poster
I took this picture at Pudding Mill station today.
Penguins always get the message over.
Wearing The Poppy With Pride
All of the DLR trains are wearing poppies.
They actually wear two; one at each end.
Sue The Twits
It is reported on the front page of The Times, that Lord McAlpine is going to sue those who might have defamed him on Twitter. It’s also here in the Telegraph.
If I were him, I’d find the most well-known twit on the list with lots of money and sue just them. It wouldn’t cost me a fortune, but the returns could be high.
