Tate To Blow Up The Best Of British Art
This is a headline in The Times and describes a plan by the Tate to put large images of some of our most famous paintings on thousands of poster sites around the country. There’s more on the scheme called Art Everywhere, here in the Independent.
I would like to see Whistlejacket, by George Stubbs displayed, but did Stubbs paint it the wrong way round to be used.
I think it’s a brilliant idea. At least they’ll be more relevant to me, than the usual boring adverts you see, like the one I saw yesterday.
In fact I think it is so brilliant, I’ve just donated a small amount of money to help. £3 pays for the printing of a poster.
Some didn’t like the headline in The Times, but I think it’s just another in the series that contains the brilliant “Fog in Channel, Continent Cut Off!”, That headline is discussed here.
Money may make the world go round, but humour puts the smile on everybody’s faces.
An Advert That’s A Waste Of Money
This advert in Hackney was placed in the ideal position, to be read by those in the front seats on the top deck of a double-deck bus, which is from where I took the picture.

An Adert That’s A Waste Of Money
So for a start, a lot of the people that view the advert are like me and don’t have a car.
But surely these days drivers buy fuel totally on price and that generally means a supermarket.
I suspect, if you find someone, who says that he or she was influenced by this particular advert to change to Esso, I’ll show you a liar.
Should Tube Stations Be Sponsored?
It has been proposed that London Underground stations should be sponsored. The story is here in the Standard.
On paper it looks a good idea, but I doubt it would work as well as expected.
Look at the obvious example of Harrods, which effectively has its own entrance into Knightsbridge station. How would Harvey Nicks feel about being served by a station called Harrods?
Perhaps an idea that might work well, but probably would not raise as much money would be to allow the bus or train information system to say something like. “This is Knightsbridge. Alight here for Harrods”
But even then, how do you sort out the Harrods/Harvey Nicholls problem?
Are Google Adverts Sometimes A Waste Of Time?
I buy a lot of things on-line.
Three companies I deal with this way are East Coast Trains, John Lewis and Southern Railway.
As when I want to go to any of these companies web site, I know where to look, surely displaying their embedded adverts in other web sites is a waste of time for me and that advert won’t get me to use their company, as I would anyway.
So they are just preaching to the converted!
Interestingly, I’ve only ever got train company adverts from companies that I use.
So how much of the money paid by companies to Google to promote companies and products is wasted?
Incidentally, I think, I’ve only ever bought one product because of an advert on a web page. I have though thought, that I won’t use that company or product because of their intrusive adverts.
But then i like to think I’m not susceptible to advertising. Or at least in the way that advertisers want me to be!
Schweppes Ruin The Summer
These adverts are on buses all over London.

Schweppes Ruin The Summer
No wonder the weather is so cold and wet! Perhaps they should be advertising cocoa!
What Is Royal Stag?
The New Zealand cricket team, seems to be sponsored by Royal Stag.
It appears it’s an Indian made whisky!
Enough said!
Where’s Laura?
Buses over London are showing my name.
I’ve actually just had a Coke too! But where is Laura?
She is on lots of other buses.
I Thought Tandoori Chicken Was Gluten Free
But obviously not this junk food.
Subway is one of these shops that should be made by law to serve at least something that is gluten-free.
Coca-Cola Vanilla Is Back
According to the adverts, Coca-Cola Vanilla is back.
I don’t think I ever noticed it had gone. I drunk it once and I’ve tasted better urine.
But seeing it’s on the buses, it probably means it’s got the same popularity as this film.
Bikinis On The Buses
H & M seemed to have moved their adverts this year from bus shelters to the buses themselves.
I suppose, it’s more difficult to spray out adverts on the sides of buses. Last year a lot of their adverts were defaced.
