The Anonymous Widower

Obesity

They’ve just given a forum on BBC Breakfast for a very large lady, who calls herself a Size Awareness Campaigner.  She objects to being called obese and wants doctors to use other words.

I would just use fat!

After all because of their overeating, they are pushing the NHS down the toilet.

Why should I pay my taxes to fund other clear up the mess causes by the bad habits of others.  And of course that includes smoking and excessive drinking!

That item would never have been shown, whilst the program was based in London.

What Have the London Marathon and the Multi-User Version of Artemis in Common

According to legend and this web site, the London Marathon was planned by Chris Brasher and John Disley in a pub; the Dysart Arms at Richmond.

So what’s different to most great ideas?

The first multi-user version of Artemis, the project management system, was designed by Richard Nobbs and myself in the Gardeners Arms at Stutton.

A Good Week for Coeliacs

On Tuesday in the Budget, George Osborne introduced a tax on hot takeaway food.  Am I bothered?  As a coeliac, who can’t eat any gluten, of course not, as most that will be taxed, would cost me a fortune in toilet paper, if I ate it!

Then today, the Government proposes a minimum price for alcohol.  As coeliacs can only drink good quality wine, cider and spirits, I doubt many will be upset!

Are Lager Sales Going Down the Toilet?

I’ve never had a drink of lager in a British pub, as I’ve always drunk real beer.

Even now, I prefer one of St. Peter’s brewery’s real gluten-free beers.

But it would appear that according to this article, I am now becoming more typical as lager sales are falling.

An Ideal Builder’s Mug

According to BBC Radio 5 tonight, some people have a special mug for builders to go with the builders’ tea.  Someone e-mailed in to say they have an HMRC mug for builders.

How appropriate!

Alistair Campbell on Alcoholism

Alistair Campbell has written a Panorama program on alcoholism, which is shown tonight.

As he was responsible for framing a lot of Nulabor policy, is there any connection to the financial mess that the Blair and Brown governments left us is.

Just looking at various cabinet ministers of the last fifty years or so, you can tell that some don’t have the healthiest of lifestyles.

Is Cider Good For You?

it is reported on the BBC that alcohol-related disease is very much on the rise, in a study from John Moores University.

Here’s an extract from the BBC report.

Annual rates for alcohol-related hospital admission in Liverpool are 3,114 per 100,000 compared to 849 per 100,000 in the Isle of Wight.

In Blackpool, the findings showed the number of deaths from chronic liver disease were 46 per 100,000 men and 21 per 100,000 women, compared with the lowest rates in the City of London and in West Somerset where nobody died of liver disease.

Does the last bit mean that cider is good for you?

You’d have thought that the City of London would be higher up the list too. Although, I did have lunch with a stockbroker yesterday and all he had was a bottle of Italian beer.  But he did have to ride his bike back to Kingston after work.

Drunk In Charge of a Coolbox

You can hardly believe this man could be so stupid.

I suppose his only defence is that he is from Queensland.

Farewell Amy Winehouse

From my bedroom in Cockfosters, I could see Southgate School, which Amy Winehouse would attend many years later.

I can also remember my sister and the other girls at the school coming and going innocently in the road in front of the house.

Now, after a later life of abuse, the obviously talented Amy is gone.  How many of the other boys and girls in her year have gone the same way? Probably only a handful, if my feelings are correct.  This is based on the fact that most of my late son’s school friends are still here. And some have not been without drink and drug problems.

So when we remember Amy, let’s remember the good things, like her music and her success.  And never ever think that her drink and drug problems are something to be admired.

Sadly, it seems that if you’re in the music industry, you attract those criminals, who want to sell you drugs, so they can have a large slice of your money.
