Beccles Station and the Start of the Construction of the Loop

On the way to football at Ipswich, I went via Beccles station, to see how the loop is progressing.

As you can see, there hasn’t been much done yet.

I hope that they improve the station as well as the track. I was there just after a very rainy morning and there was only one dry place to sit; a small patch of low concrete wall. Passengers started turning up about half-an-hour before the train and a couple were quite a bit older than me. There wasn’t even a pub or a cafe nearby.

I’ve been to quite a few unmanned stations in East Anglia, but Beccles must surely be one of the worst, if not the worst!

Where Have All The Stonewall Bus Adverts Gone?

I sat in Starbucks in Upper Street today having a cappuccino, but I didn’t see one of Stonewall’s adverts, that used to be so numerous.

Perhaps the contract has finished.

But I did see a lot advertising a film called Salmon Fishing in the Yemen.

Salmon Fishing in the Yemen

It used to be the rumour that when a film was advertised extensively on buses, it was not the best.

GreaterAnglia Trains Don’t Terminate

They complete their journeys, as I heard tonight. Terminate is so hard and possibly tragic.  I’ve complained of this before.

My Sense of Smell Seems To Have Returned

Surprisingly, over the last few days, my sense of smell seems to have returned. A lady next to me on a train was chewing spearmint gum and I really smelt it. I can’t say I’ve smelt spearmint that strongly since my stroke.

But that was only one incident out of several.

Despite Help From Ed Milliband, Aquascutum Goes Bust!

Aquascutum has entered administration, as is reported here on the BBC today.

This is despite the publicity of Ed Milliband wearing one of their suits at his wedding last year. It must have been the colour!

The Strange Things You See At Night!

On Sunday night at about nine,  as I made my way home on the bus, there was a guy on the vehicle with a complete set of ice hockey gear, including two sticks.  He got off at the Lea Valley Ice Centre.

Games must start late!

The Case of Anders Breivik

In my view, whether Anders Breivik is sane or not is irrelevant.  And the British courts generally take that view as multiple murderers are either declared criminally insane and sent to places like Broadmoor or just sentenced to spent the rest of their lives in jail.

I suppose that in many ways Broadmoor might be preferable from the murderer’s point of view, but in truth the result is the same.

But still the Norwegians persist in a trial, that gives Breivik the ability to expound his views.

I’ve Now Got Benign Positional Vertigo

A couple of times recently, when doing my morning stretching, I’ve got a bit giddy.  I’ve also noticed a bit of trouble, getting out of bed in the middle of the night. It happened again yesterday with my physio and he said it was Benign Positional Vertigo. Apparently, it’s caused by crystals of calcium carbonate in the inner ear and the cure is to use a particular movement, which is generally taught by a physio.

So I’m going to see a specialist physio next week and we’ll see how it goes.

In the meantime, I’ve cut out my calcium supplement and am going for walks, as this seems to help. But I’m also suspicious of this house and the sooner I get the air conditioning the better.
