RIP Tony Scott
I did see a couple of Tony Scott‘s films, but I wasn’t a great fan.
However, I’ve never seen a cinema put something like this on the front.
The Totally Flat Floor Of A New Bus For London
As someone who travels on buses a lot, all buses should be like this on the lower deck.
The picture was taken from the back looking forward.
I think only the New Bus for London has such a flat floor. The conductor told me, it makes things a lot easier for both himself and the passengers.
Incidentally, I had to run and catch this bus. In the end I jumped onto the rear platform after a forty metre sprint. Not bad for a sixty-five year old after a stroke, with a dicky heart.
try doing that on any other bus.
A Bad Day For Living Alone
Today is probably not going to be a good day. It’s going to rain all day and the football is in Blackpool, the town with the streets paved with vomit. I suppose the heavy rain forecast for the cess-pit of the Lancashire coast, will clean it up a bit, but it’s not the weather to visit a town without any gluten-free food.
So I’ll just stay here and listen to the radio in between watching the football on Sky.
I can’t even go to bed, as I don’t have a lady to make it more comfortable.
At least with the cafe opposite, I can go there and have a coffee in between the rain showers.
I think I’ll look for a matinee at the theatre. At least, I can catch the 38 bus from round the corner direct to Shaftesbury Avenue. Singing in the Rain anybody?
Most Families Have A Harry
Before anybody criticises Prince Harry for his behaviour, they ought to look at their own families. How many can say, that the behaviour of their father’s and grandfather’s generation were perfect? I certainly can’t! I also know how my father was affected by the premature death of his father. And Harry of course lost his mother in tragic circumstances. He also does what many would consider a much more dangerous job than his brother does, so perhaps feels he must let off steam more.
It would appear that the only person, he’s really hurt is himself and mainly by making himself look an idiot. He doesn’t appear to have been nowhere near as stupid, as some of his ancestors were in the first half of the twentieth century.
We should not judge him, until he’s a few years older at least.
Modesty, Manners And Fair Play
The Evening Standard is London’s newspaper, but it hasn’t always been totally behind the Olympics. However, in this article, Nick Curtis, thinks we got it right.
I do too!
Crime and health problems were down and I have commented how everybody has been talking. Certainly, the police have been friendlier too!
Only time will tell, if this is the correct impression. But talking to Olympic tourists generally confirmed we’d got it right.
Roll on the Paralympics! And the world aThletic Championships in 2017!
Now That’s What I Call A Scooter
I saw this guy yesterday.
What a superb vehicle! His wheel-chair loads from the back.
Note the sign for the Ace Cafe.
Buses For The Chinese
The bus route 88 is surely an ideal one for the Chinese, who are very superstitious about eights.
We even had a winner at Nottingham on the 8th of August, 1988. The horse, Golden Panda was named after a Chinese restaurant, owned by a friend from Hong Kong.
We dined out cheaply on that win for many years.
What Should The Norwegians Do With Anders Breivik?
We have had three massacres in recent years in the UK; Hungerford, Dunblane and Cumbria.
These three are different to the shootings in Norway, in that all three of the perpetrators killed themselves. Even Raoul Moat did this after his horrendous crimes.
So does this mean that they understood the enormity of what they had done in some bizarre way? But we do often hear that the gunman has killed himself or themselves after this sort of case.
So this is the unusual thing about the Breivik case, in which his fate is decided today. Most criminals or terrorists of his kind usually commit suicide. The nearest we have to Breivik in this country is David Copeland, who was a neo-Nazi, who killed three, but it could have been so many more. He was considered to be mentally ill, but was tried for murder and will serve at least 50 years in jail.
I suspect that Breivik is the one person, who if released would either be murdered by his countrymen or do it again.
Are Booze Cruises On The Way Back?
With Scotland likely to make it more difficult for Scottish residents to buy booze, this article indicates that booze cruises might be on their way back.
All it proves is that Newton was right.
Every action has an equal and opposite reaction.
He may have been talking about mechanics and his laws of motion, but it also applies to the rules imposed by governments.
I Didn’t Believe My Eyes
As I walked past the cafe on the way to supper tonight, I caught in the corner of my eyes, a very distinctive picture. A lady of about thirty or so, was standing by the counter and everything about her looked familiar from her height, the type of summer dress she was wearing, her shoulders, her well-toned arms and her dark blonde hair cut short in a modern version of the classic sixties style.
It could have been C standing there! Except that looking at a picture of her now, her hair always had the odd natural curl, that just wouldn’t stay in place. And of course, the lady in the cafe was about thirty years younger.
So I just pulled myself together and walked on.
