Scots Put Wind Up Donald Trump

I can’t say I warm to Donald Trump and I don’t think, that I’d want to be anywhere near his golf development, as it will probably attract a lot of the sort of people, that I find odious.

So I read the report about his spat with the Scottish Parliament with interest and a small bit of pleasure. I’m not really in favour of wind turbines and especially those onshore, but offshore ones, if the economic case is there are a much better option. Let’s hope he gets a nice line of pylons across his golf course.

Championship Clubs Agree Fair Play Rules

The Championship clubs have agreed a set of fair-play rules to ensure that a club can’t do a QPR and buy themselves promotion.  It is reported here in the Independent.

We should be told which were the three Championship clubs that voted against the implementation of the rules.

Any ideas?

On the 26th April, The Times said the three clubs were Reading, Southampton and Leicester City. All are owned by very rich individuals.

What Have the London Marathon and the Multi-User Version of Artemis in Common

According to legend and this web site, the London Marathon was planned by Chris Brasher and John Disley in a pub; the Dysart Arms at Richmond.

So what’s different to most great ideas?

The first multi-user version of Artemis, the project management system, was designed by Richard Nobbs and myself in the Gardeners Arms at Stutton.

Harry Drops His Brother and Kate In It!

Prince Harry presented the prizes at the London Marathon today and was asked if he’d ever do it. He said possibly, but he said his brother and Kate were going to do it next year!

Who needs brothers or brothers-in-law like Harry?

Dorothy Tyler Starts the London Marathon

Dorothy Tyler is to start the London Marathon.  She is 92, and the only female athlete to win an Olympic medal before and after the Second World War, as she won silver medals in the high jump in Berlin in 1936 and London in 1948.

The 1936 contest was surrounded by Nazi chicanery. It’s all detailed here. Hitler was really pleased that the event was won by the Hungarian,Ibolya Csak, who just happened to be Jewish. The Germans plan of getting a man to enter, spectacularly backfired, when Dora Ratjen came fourth.

The Goodyear Blimp Over the Balls Pond Road

I took this picture, as I came back from getting my paper this morning.

If looked to me, that the Goodyear Blimp was flying along the Balls Pond Road toward Highbury Corner for the Arsenal Chelsea match at lunchtime. I’m not sure about the flying rules for airships, but if the pilot was in the left hand seat, he could have been flying just to the north of the road. That would be standard procedure in a fixed wing aircraft, when flying visually.

The Goodyear Blimp Over The Balls Pond Road

I see the blimp is down to be over the London Marathon tomorrow.

Formula One in Bahrain

May I suggest that we all show our disgust at the non-cancellation of the Bahrain Grand Prix, by not watching or listening to the race. Even without satellite TV, I’m certain I can find something else to watch or listen to.

I suspect that the race clashes on Sunday with the London Marathon and I might go to see that anyway.

Olympic Tickets

Everybody has had their views on the problems with Olympic tickets.

The difficulty in obtaining tickets depends on many factors.

The first thing, is that the various stadia are probably not quite large enough.  But they were designed around the number of tickets sold at previous Games and of course within the more limited budget available for these Games.

I think too, that people like corporate sponsors are taking too many of the prime tickets.  But again, because of the straightened times we are in, we need the sponsors to keep the costs down.

But the biggest problem we have an immense number of people who can get to the Games. Obviously, there are all those, who can get to London for the day, but we have to include all of those, who have a friend or relative in the city. Let’s say you are Austrian and your daughter works in London.  With both the Olympics and the Diamond Jubilee, this summer, what better time to come and spend some time in the greatest city in the world, even if you have to sleep on the sofa or even the floor.

Many of these people, like the Irish, the Scandinavians and some of the smaller European Union countries will never get to host the Olympics in their lifetime, and as they have a right to buy tickets, then why will they not come?

So London is probably the most convenient city to hold the Olympics.  The only European ones that come near are Paris and Berlin. The next city, Rio di Janeiro may be a fabulous city, but it’s not exactly easy to get to. just like Beijing and Sydney.

We’re all suffering from excess demand and not enough tickets.

If the Olympics had gone to Paris, the same problem would have happened.

Beccles Station and the Start of the Construction of the Loop

On the way to football at Ipswich, I went via Beccles station, to see how the loop is progressing.

As you can see, there hasn’t been much done yet.

I hope that they improve the station as well as the track. I was there just after a very rainy morning and there was only one dry place to sit; a small patch of low concrete wall. Passengers started turning up about half-an-hour before the train and a couple were quite a bit older than me. There wasn’t even a pub or a cafe nearby.

I’ve been to quite a few unmanned stations in East Anglia, but Beccles must surely be one of the worst, if not the worst!

The Strange Things You See At Night!

On Sunday night at about nine,  as I made my way home on the bus, there was a guy on the vehicle with a complete set of ice hockey gear, including two sticks.  He got off at the Lea Valley Ice Centre.

Games must start late!
