Liverpool University’s New London Campus Gets An Unusual Plug
I usually listen to Fighting Talk on BBC Radio 5 on Saturday.
This Saturday was no exception and I was surprised to hear one of the panellists work Liverpool University’s New London Campus into an answer to a question about the University Boat Race.
The four panellists were Cornelius Lysaght, John Rawling, Louise Hazel and Bob Mills. I don’t think it was Lysaght, although he is an Everton supporter, Rawling went to Manchester University and Hazel went to Birmingham. So that leaves Bob Mills, who has no Liverpudlian connections. All of this information is according to Wikipedia, so it might be suspect.
I Left A Tissue In My Smalls
In the washing yesterday, I left a tissue in the pocket of my tennis shorts.
This was one of my biggest offences with C. I don’t think that I’ve done it for years.
I doubt I will again!
Canary Wharf’s Floating Bridge
Whilst at West India Quay DLR station, I also looked at the floating bridge.
It is a unique design and it is something that could be copied elsewhere.
Through The City Of London Under Blue Skies
Yesterday morning, I took a 141 bus, through the City of London to London Bridge station.
Sunday mornings, and especially fine ones, are a good time to visit the City of London. At that time, you can usually get up front on a double-decker bus, to get the best pictures.
Is This Because Of The Hour Change?
I saw this sign on a shop near me.
As I took the picture, the weekend of the hour change, it might have been true for one day only.
But does the owner alter it, when the clocks go the other way?
The Tyranny Of The Seasons
The weather might have been a bit better on Friday, but the same couldn’t be said for my shopping.
I went with the idea of buying two things; a decent pair of cord trousers and some leather gloves.
But it was the wrong season for both and fashion’s obsession with that is summed up in this picture on the wall.
As I tend to dress the same all the year, why can’t I buy my staple clothes, when I want to?
After all, we don’t have to buy things like baked beans, just after harvest time. How silly would it be, if we had to buy a hundred tins for the next year in say September?
Incidentally, the cold meant the shops and restaurants were pretty empty.
And in the cafe, where I had a cup of tea, the waitress was wearing a fleece over her uniform.
Blue Skies Over London
On Friday, back in London, I was out and about in the morning doing a bit of shopping.
I saw a lot more sun in those few hours, than I did on ten days of the cruise.
Two Moroccan Corvettes
We were accompanied up the Tagus, by a pair of Moroccan Corvettes; 613 and 614.
I think they docked further downriver from where the Oriana did.
The corvettes were built by the Dutch and are two of a family of Sigma-class corvettes.
The Evacuation Of The Gibraltarians
I knew little of the history of Gibraltar in the Second World War, although I did know little bits about its role in naval activities and as a place, where evading servicemen aimed for, to get back home.
But I knew nothing about, what happened to the people of the colony during the war.
As I walked towards the centre of town after landing, I noticed this statue on a roundabout.
It is called the Evacuation Of The Gibraltarians and there is more about the true story here in Wikipedia.
I feel, the story goes a long way to explain, why Gibraltarians want to determine their own future.
Walking Back To The Oriana
I took these pictures as I walked back to the Oriana.
They do illustrate, what I said in this post about there being a need for a good walking route from the tram to the dock.
I always photograph daisies.
