Some Lively Colobus Monkeys

London Zoo has a group of black and white colobus monkeys.

The weather seemed to have no effect on them. Although, when I took the pictures, there does seem to be blue sky above.

The Penguins Were Being Penguins

What else is there to say about London Zoo’s mainly home-bred show-offs?

Even with the temperature in single-figures they weren’t bothered.

My Seventh Christmas Alone

I thought that it can’t be, but it is!  I could rewrite this post from 2010, but that would be boring.

I am struggling to get to the football on Boxing Day and except for lunch tomorrow, I’ve got very little planned.

And surprise, surprise, the television is crap and of course there’s no live sport.

This afternoon, I’m going to see my friends in the penguin pool at London Zoo.  At least they’re loving this weather.

Londoners Are Wimps About Shopping!

This morning I needed a few things at Waitrose, so I did what C and I used to do in Suffolk.  I went to the store at the Angel early about an hour after it opened. It was very uncrowded.  In Suffolk, half the population would have been there, as they all generally getup early.

But obviously they don’t in London.  Coming back, the bus had about five passengers.

What Have The Train Leasing Companies Done For Us?

I found this page on the web site of one of the train leasing compabies; Eversholt Rail Group.

It shows how they and one of the train refurbishment companies; Wabtec, are creating a demonstrator for an upgrade of the Class 321 trains which are a mainstay of services to East Anglia.

GreaterAnglia will then run the train in service and actively canvas the opinion of the travelling public.

Isn’t this a sensible way to provide better rolling stock for train services, at a more affordable price.

Passengers won’t get new trains, but they will look and feel like them!

In some ways this story is a tribute to the legendary Mark 3 Coach, on which the Class 321 is based.

But then the bit we sit in, on a train, isn’t the sexy bit.

Logging In In France

On my recent trip to Bilbao and back, I spent three days in France and on the two mornings in Biarritz, I checked some of my Internet accounts, from a computer in the hotel’s Business Centre.

My major accounts have a system of logins and passwords that are stored in my Mark One brain, which means it is a system that is unbreakable without my being present. Nothing is written down, on or in anything I carry.

However, France with its bizarre keyboard layout, made some of the logins difficult. For instance to login to many accounts, you need to type an e-mail address, but that is not easy, as typing the @ sign is not a simple shift, but a control-alt keystroke.

Sometimes, France can get very annoying in the simplest of things, by going its own sweet way.

Coeliacs And Health

I was reading a comment on this post when I had a thought.

Are coeliacs a rather unique health grouping?

Is there another disease, where most diagnosed sufferers eat so healthily?

I suspect too, that if you look at a database of coeliacs, that the level of smoking and drinking is lower than the general population, But I also suspect that applies to a lot of serious diseases like cancer, stroke and heart problems.

There are other factors that come into it too. I see the practice nurse every three months for a B12 injection. I hope they might spot something like a mole turning cancerous. But they always go through a simple how are you routine, whilst performing the procedure.

So analysing a database of coeliacs, you might find the results skewed because of a high proportion of healthy eaters, non-smokers and light drinkers, who see a healthcare professional regularly.

After all, it has been shown for example, that diagnosed coeliacs, who stick to their gluten-free diet have lower levels of cancer than the general population.

Things Are Happening At Custom House Station

The area, where the new Custom House Crossrail station is to be constructed has been sealed off and bypassed by a pedestrian bridge.

The Roof Goes On Canary Wharf Crossrail Station

If Canary Wharf Crossrail station is the taster for the standard of the stations on the new line, then we’re in for a treat.

Some of our best Victorian architecture was reserved for stations, like Paddington, Kings Cross and St. Pancras. Are we repeating this in the twenty-first century?

Vincent Tan Was Right

Yesterday, Cardiff City played in their traditional blue colours against Liverpool. So Vincent Tan is in some ways right,  as Cardiff lost badly.  Obviously, the shirts are not lucky, like red ones are.

There was a joke going Portman Road yesterday, that Mick McCarthy had been asked to be the next Cardiff manager.  Apparently, he’d told Vincent Tan in his most polite Yorkshire-Irish way, that he wasn’t interested in the job.
