A Malaysian View on London Buses

I found this article on a Malaysian newspaper website.

It is of an interview of the Chief Executive of the Malaysian Land Public Transport Commission, where they talk about improving bus services over all of Malaysia.

What is interesting, is that they are talking about using a London model, where different private companies tender for specific routes. I won’t comment yet, but make sure you read the article.

Do Some Phone Apps Invade Privacy?

This question is asked in an article in The Sunday Times today.

I can’t say I’m bothered as my Nokia 6310i can’t run apps.

However, if you search the Internet with the title of this post or something like it, you’ll find a lot of people are worried, that your privacy is being invaded.

But not mine!

Donald Trump, Alex Salmond and Wind Turbines

There’s an interesting article in Friday’s Guardian, called Donald Trump wind turbine fiasco could be defining for Scotland. The first part is about Donald Trump opposition to several large offshore wind turbines by his new golf course near Aberdeen and how he is going to fund the opponents of wind power in Scotland.

By the way the Birther Movement mentioned in the Guardian article, as part-funded by Trump,  are a group of conspiracy theorists, who believe President Obama was not born in Hawaii. So Trump has form, when it comes to funding opposition groups that might help his personal ambitions or business interests.  There’s more on the movement here.

There is one statement after Trump and that is this.

But the idea of Trump as good business versus loony-greens hellbent on no-jobs is nonsense. Bloomberg New Energy Finance recently suggested onshore wind will be cost competitive with gas and coal generation by 2016.

I hope Bloomberg is right, as the waters around these island certainly have a lot of wind.

In some ways, the second part of the Guardian article is in some ways the more significant. It talks about how a wind turbine is being built at Portobello in Edinburgh. I wonder what the good burghers of Scotland’s capital think of the project?

Liverpool in Trouble Again

But this time, it’s not their players or fans, it’s just that an engineering train has got derailed at Winsford, preventing their fans from getting to the Carling Cup Final at Wembley today.

The information has not been released as to the team that the driver supports.

Docklands Light Railway Efficiency

I just saw one of the most efficient pieces of cleaning, I’ve seen in a long time.

I had boarded a DLR train from Canary Wharf station towards Stratford, when I noticed the floor in one section was absolutely filthy.  It looked like someone had spilt a full carton of coffee.

At the first station out of Canary Wharf, West India Quay, I was surprised to see a lady, in a high visibility vest enter the carriage, with what was best described as a good old-fashioned mop and pail in plastic. By Poplar, she had it finished and left the train and a beautifully clean floor.

Everybody was rightly impressed. The cleaner was even pleased that she finally discovered the errant coffee carton, that had hidden itself deep under a seat.

Alexandra Palace

I went to Alexandra Palace station yesterday and then walked up the hill to Alexandra Palace itself.

Note if the visibility had been better, the views of the rest of London would have been very good.

This Backlash Just Had to Happen

Last night in Rochdale, various factions attacked the takeaway and the police, that used to be owned by some of those on trial for sex offences in Liverpool Crown court.

And people wonder why Rochdale has such an awful run-down town centre.

With all the goings on there, would you let any of your children go near the place? And would you go there yourself, if there were a decent alternative nearby? Of course, you wouldn’t!

It strikes me before you try to build up the town centre, you must give it a steam clean first, to remove all the low life of whatever race they are to a place, where they can’t do any more damage.

What It Is About Stuart?

Broad, Lancaster and Pearce

Can we have ever had three England captains or managers with the same first name?

RBS

Surely, if we paid no bonuses at the Royal Bank of UK Taxpayers, then these people would walk and we’d save their salary as well.

But would that also mean they’d be able to sue for constructive dismissal, as bonuses are expected?

Will No One Rid Me of this Terrible Builder?

Obviously, the title of this post is with apologies to King Henry II

I needed to have my daily lukewarm soak, this afternoon, and guess what, I was bitten again by some junk that  Jerry had installed, that masquerade in the name of taps.  There’s a video of them here, but it doesn’t show the cold top falling off, because obviously so many people have been fooled by it’s unusual direction.
