Underground Maps By Lego
Five Underground maps have been made in Lego.
They are at South Kensington (1927), Green Park (1968), Piccadilly(1933), Kings Cross (Future) and Stratford 2013) stations.
The only map, that was difficult to find was the one at Stratford, which was at the Eastfield entrance to the station. It was also the only one inside the ticket barriers.
The map at Kings Cross is the first in an Underground station to show Crossrail integrated with the Underground.
A Useless Shopping Trip
This afternoon, I decided to go shopping to get some clothes from my holiday next week. I took the Overground to Stratford and walked into Eastfield.
It was not the most fulfilling of trips.
For a start, when I walked in, I thought I might like a tea or a cappuccino. Before the Olympics, I used to get this in the Starbucks by the station entrance, but since the Games, I’ve avoided it, as it only sells drinks in cardboard cups. These are for takeaways, not sitting in.
I then walked through to John Lewis and thought I’d see if there was a suitable coat. I need one with a large internal pocket on my left breast, that is big enough for my newspaper or my small Samsung Tab 2. Despite the attention of a very personable and professional sales assistant in an hijab, they couldn’t find anything, which fitted my requirements.
So it was on to Marks and Spencer, where I tried to get a second pair of cord trousers like those I was wearing. Despite having bought them only last week, I was again unlucky, as that style wasn’t stocked at Eastfield.
So I then retreated back to the Overground and came home.
That was a very unproductive shopping trip. I’ll try again in Oxford Street tomorrow. I should find the trousers, as they had quite a few pairs last week, there are a couple of Carluccio’s for some tea or coffee, but I doubt I’ll find the coat, as big pockets are so two years ago.
Made In Greece
I actually bought something in Boots in Eastfield, that was made in Greece.
It was some T/Gel shampoo.
No Place For My Friend In The Hague
I went to Eastfield this afternoon to get some bits and pieces. It’s a shopping centre, that my friend from The Hague wouldn’t like. It may have a John Lewis and a Lakeland, but there is no TK-Maxx.
A Disappointing Starbucks
After Pudding Mill Lane I went to Eastfield to do a bit of shopping in the Marks and Spencer there. I successfully bought the jumper I wanted and some food for tonight.
However, I was not able to buy any coffee.
Because of my stroke and a slightly wonky mouth, I do not drink coffee from cardboard or plastic cups. And that’s all you now get in this branch in Eastfield! They used to have proper mugs before the Olympics.
So I came home thirsty!
But then Eastfield is one of those gluten-free deserts. Now it seems I can’t get a coffee there in Starbucks. I usually drink in one of their stores, as I can have something to eat if I want.
The Olympic Park From John Lewis At Eastfield
John Lewis at Eastfield have opened a viewing gallery of the Olympic Park.
These are pictures, I took today.
It certainly gives good views of the Olympic Park.
One of the Only Gluten-Free Snacks At Eastfield
As I’ve said before Eastfield, or Westfield Stratford City as the developers prefer, is a place where gluten-free food for lunch or dinner is difficult to find.
This is all I could find, other than loaves in Waitrose and Marks and Spencer.
Even Starbucks only had the usual excellent brownie and a cheese and coleslaw sandwich. And I just think coleslaw is food for German rabbits.
Returning to the Marks sandwich, what do you do if you’re Jewish or Muslim and fancy something substantial?
I suppose we could always live on Starbucks brownies for a few hours, but the lack of choice does really put me off going to Eastfield.
Waitrose Comes to Highbury Corner
It’s not open yet, but a new little Waitrose is slated to open on July 24th at Highbury Corner.
I took this picture today and it shows they have a lot of work to do before the 24th of July.
That means I won’t have so far to go as it’s just four stops on a 277 or 30 bus. Especially on days like yesterday, when I went all the way to the Angel for just six items. The stop to return home incidentally is just outside.
It’ll be interesting where they go next, as they have the large branches at Jones Brothers on the Holloway Road and Eastfield at Stratford.
All The Way To Eastfield for a Loaf and a Moan
This afternoon, as I had nothing better to do, I decided that as I’d failed to get any bread this morning, that a quick trip to Eastfield was in order. Waitrose didn’t have the bread I wanted, but they did have a brown Genius and one of Genius’s excellent fruit loafs. So I bought both and then went into O2 to moan about my Junkberry. It’s not their fault, as they didn’t come up with the crap design. I think to be fair too, the Junkberry bubble has now burst with the share price heading towards Antartica. I’m afraid I don’t buy products from losers, unless the price is absolutely right.
I’ve already had an e-mail from Tonik, saying that my two old Nokia 630i will be back with me soon. In fact, knowing couriers as I do, I suspect that they’ll get my phones from Enfield, quicker than O2 could swap my phone.
I can do without a phone in the interim anyway, as no-one outside of a few people and scammers ever phone me these days. And the things I want to do with the phone, like texting where buses are, it can’t do.
I’m Getting Paranoid About Waitrose
Coeliacs are very particular about what they eat.
My list of must-have foods apart from the usual things, like meat, fish, vegetables and fruit includes :-
- Waitrose seeded, thin-sliced loaf. It makes good toast and lovely sandwiches.
- Waitrose semi-skimmed goats milk. As good as any, and there is no smell.
- Eat Natural gluten-free toasted muesli with vine fruit.
- St.Helen’s Farm semi-skimmed goats milk yoghurt. I have this with my breakfast cereal.
- Rowse organic honey. Again, I have this with the breakfast cereal.
But my branch in Islington does its best to annoy me :-
- They haven’t had the thin-sliced loaf for weeks. But they always seem to have the thick-sliced, which has the texture of the stuff with which they make IKEA furniture. It is ideal for making sandwiches for masochists!
- Recently, there have been days, with the full-fat goats milk, but not the semi-skimmed.
- They haven’thad this for months, but they’ve always got lots of unsold packets of the buckwheat version. So it means, I have to go to Sainsbury’s next door.
- I make sure, I always have the yoghurt in the fridge, as sometimes this isn’t for sale.
- The same applies to the honey.
And then of course there’s the check-outs, which were designed by a man or woman with two perfect hands.
It is any wonder, that I’m getting paranoid?
I suppose this afternoon, I had better go all the way to Eastfield to get a loaf.
