Reach For A Lawyer

One thing that has always puzzled me about mass killings in the United States, is that no-one has used a lawyer to sue someone, who was loosely connected to the crime.  The people, who made the guns and the bullets for a start. And what about his mother’s estate or his father, who moved out? They could also sue the school for not having a US Marine in every class room. The list could be endless to a creative lawyer.

After all McDonalds were successfully sued by someone who spilt a cup of hot coffee. I once did that to myself, so should I claim against the airline for serving me in error, when I have a gammy hand? As I spilt it all over that hand, perhaps the damage to the nerves caused my stroke. On the other hand, I would have lost the case, as I said sorry to the stewardess.

The Troubled Adam Lanza

It would appear from reports like this, that Adam Lamza was a very troubled kid.

It all goes to prove my feeling that as guns are so dangerous, they should always be under lock from two separate responsible people. I know this was originally proposed by the NFU to stop suicide amongst farmers, but it would help to stop the number of people killed in a country, where people habitually owned guns.

It would never be implemented in the United States, as the idiots of the NRA and many others, would consider it a major assault on freedom.

Protect Children, Not Guns

In view of the awful shootings in Connecticut, which have resulted in the deaths of 27, read this article called Protect Children, Not Guns.

This is the introductory paragraph.

In 2008, 2,947 children and teens died from guns in the United States and 2,793 died in 2009 for a total of 5,740—one child or teen every three hours, eight every day, 55 every week for two years. Six times as many children and teens—34,387—suffered nonfatal gun injuries as gun deaths in 2008 and 2009. This is equal to one child or teen every 31 minutes, 47 every day, and 331 children and teens every week.

They are chilling figures and all the Americans do is get more guns.

Shooting Animals

They were discussing shooting animals on Richard Bacon on Radio 5 this afternoon.

I remembered an incident from my past.

I was in the hallway of a stately home and standing in front of a massive stuffed polar bear with Lord Xxxx.  We both agreed it was magnificent. He then put forward the view that they shot big game a hundred or so years ago, to prove that they had seen it.

Now we use the camera! Much more civilised.

I think Lord Xxxx was right, as we all like to show off to our friends, the things we have seen.

The Issue Too Hot For The US Presidential Candidate

This piece on the BBC talks about the subject that is not being mentioned by either of the US Presidential candidates; guns and specially the case of Trayvon Martin.

The United States must get to grips with its gun culture.  It’s now starting to spill over into the UK and it’s an American import we don’t want or need.

The Gun Lobby Says No

As always the gun lobby in the UK is resisting attempts to change their sport for the good of others.  In this case, it’s about the use of lead shot, which has been shown to kill birds like mallards which think it’s food and eat it. The story is here on the BBC.

The arguments put up by the shooting lobby are rather spurious in my opinion and would not be put forward by most of my friends who shoot. I used to know one old colonel, who for instance used to go shooting rabbits with a hi-tech air rifle, as he felt it was more skilful than using a shot-gun.  He also got something more appetising for the pot.

Don’t Americans Know Guns Kill People?

This tragic case from the BBC web site, shows why I think those who own guns need either very intensive training or to be certified.

I remember once reading the US gun crime statistics and many of those killed were children and young people, shot by a friend or family member by accident.

I think even if a high-ranking politician was shot dead in a genuine accident, it wouldn’t cure Americans addiction to guns.

America Is Thinking Of You

This statement of Barack Obama is very easy to say after the massacre in Aurora.

If America is thinking then they should change their culture and attitude to firearms. I read this article by Rod Dreher on the BBC’s web site.  He is an American Conservative and makes some strong and well-thought points.

It shows how the problem is a lot worse than anybody in the UK thinks.

I do think though that spillover from American culture is behind some of the gun crime in the UK and other countries.

You Can’t Legislate For Stupid

This little snippet from The Times today, hints at a major row in the state of Utah over gun ownership.

Clouds of smoke blanketed western states in America yesterday as firefighters blamed gun owners for scores of fires.

A furious row erupted after a fire official in Utah said that some gunmen using the forests for target practice “might as well just go up there and strike a match”.

Clark Aposhian, chairman of the Utah Shooting Sports Council, conceded that gun owners were responsible for some forest fires but, citing the Second Amendment and the right to bear arms, he added: “You start banning guns and you’re on a slippery slope.”

Coy Porter, Utah’s chief deputy fire marshal, said legislation for permanent bans might be introduced. “Unfortunately you can’t legislate for stupid,” he added.

Checking this page, which gives worldwide murder statistics, it doesn’t appear that the state has a high homicide rate.

Perhaps, they’re all bad shots, which explains the large amount of fires. But as the fire officer said, you can’t legislate for stupid.

Another Mass Shooting In the United States

Sadly, there is has been another mass shooting in the United States, this time in Oakland.

When is the country going to get the simple relation, that guns kill people?

They send an awful message to the rest of the world. Look at the latest film from Hollywood; The Hunger Games.  Quite frankly it is sick. Why has it been given a certificate in the UK?
