I’d Quite Like To Watch Or Listen To The Rugby
Until recently, I used to get Sky Sports 1 and 2, through my BT Vision system, but now the signal has been cut, probably because Sky and BT aren’t talking to each other with the best interests of the customers in mind. I could get a signal through BT Infinity, which I want anyway. Unfortunately, fibre optic broadband is not available where I live close to the City of London. Get your finger out BT!
I could get a Sky dish, but I don’t want any other channels and in a few years, everything I want to see, will be available through fibre optic broadband. I don’t even mind, if it’s on a pay per view basis, as hopefully someone will see sense in streaming this without the adverts I hate.
But the rugby isn’t even on Radio 5! So I’m just watching a text commentary and getting the odd report from Ian Robertson on Radio 5.
At least the Lions seem to be doing OK, with Robertson describing them as rampant.
I May Not Be Old Enough To Listen To Radio 2, But I Did Get Invited To Take Part
I was invited to appear on the Jeremy Vine show on BBC Radio 2 today, even though I’m not old enough to listen regularly.

Shelagh Fogarty has just been interrupted on BBC Radio 5 Live, by a mouse running around the studio.
What a bimbo! Judging by her reaction!
It’s what you get when you move the BBC to a rodent-infested part of the North.
The Internet For Timely Information
I generally look each morning, at the list of the ten most read pages on the BBC’s web site.
This morning, only one of the ten is not about the weather and seven are concerning school closures. In order they are Notts, Essex, England, Leicester, Kent and Shropshire.
In pre-Internet days, parents would have listened to local radio.
It’s Thirty Years Of Breakfast TV Today
I can remember, when it started and watched the first program. Probably in my attic at The house in Debach, where I was writing Artemis.
I can also remember ;listening to the opening of LBC, the London news station in the flat in the Barbican.
But some things never change. They showed what was about in 1983 and one was the InterCity 225‘s running out of Kings Cross. Although, they didn’t start running until 1988. So either I got the identification wrong or the BBC used a wrong clip.
Radio 5 Scrapes The Barrel
I haven’t got a television listing magazine, so I thought there might be something sensible to which to listen on Radio 5. all they’ve got is a program about American football called A Week with the Cheeseheads.
That really is the pits and after all they are a British radio station.
Two Dave Banks
On BBC Radio 5 Live’s program Double Take on Sunday morning they had a problem.
Both guests were called Dave Banks.
I had to go out, so I didn’t see if it led to any large amounts of hilarity.
I have a very common name and I’ve actually met three people who use the same first and last name combination I do.
I’ve always thought it an idea for a television show to get twenty with the same name and their partners to have a weekend in a hotel and then record what happens. You’d have to be careful about the hotel you choose.

BT Vision has updated itself, but now every so often I get this display on the screen, whilst listening to Radio 5 Live.

Channel 4 Sacks John McCririck
Channel 4 has sacked John McCririck, one of their horse racing team. He blames ageism in this report on the BBC.
I’m not bothered one way or another if he appears on Channel 4 Racing, as he can be almost as irritating as the adverts that appear on the channel.
I’ve spoken to him a couple of times and although his views can be outspoken, I’ve never found him anything but charming and courteous. In fact a friend was interviewed by him, for their screen test for television and found he put them totally at ease.
I have a feeling that McCririck will appear elsewhere on television and/or radio, as his knowledge of horse racing is undoubtedly at the highest level.
