A Survey From Marks and Spencer
I got a survey request apparently from Marks and Spencer this morning. If I entered the survey, I would have a chance to win a prize of £10,000 in my local store.
That sounded generous and as it would be difficult to spend that in the local store at either the Islington or Hackney stores, my spam filter kicked in with a strong positive.
I then saw that it was sent to my old e-mail address and not the one I normally use and it also came from an e-mail address that didn’t shout Marks and Spencer.
But it looked very genuine and professional and even had an unsubscribe link. I clicked that and got a feasible unsubscribe page.
But in Italian!
I have since phoned marks and Spencer and they will investigate.
The e-mail address it came from had clash and clnews8 in the address.
If you get any from these jokers, use the delete key.
Car Leasing Spam
I’ve been in Liverpool for a couple of days, and in those days, I must have got about ten e-mails trying to lease me a car or a van.
I keep telling the bastards I don’t drive and unsubscribe, but still they keep coming.
I would think that they have a very bad conversion rate.
Repeated Spam
When I cleaned out the spam in my blog, a few minutes ago, one of the most common bits of spam, I found was on this post about US sailors being drunk.
It was for various lawyers in Texas, who were offering their services for offences like drunk driving. As the chance, I’d get done for drunk driving in Texas, as much less than hell freezing over, someone is wasting their time and money.
On Line Loan Applications
Someone just tried to put a link to an on-line payday loan company in this post on my blog. As you can see the post is about wind power, so why would someone interested in wind power and Ireland, click away from the page to some dubious on-line loan provider?
I deleted the comment, as I always do with those that aren’t constructive to the blog.
But it got me thinking!
So I typed.
online loan application
Into Google to see what turned up.
The first page had about twenty links, of which only half were for legitimate sources in my view. The rest were in my view the on-line providers, that I find dubious.
I’ve also looked at my spam and note, there are quite a few payday loan companies trying to advertise using my site, but they have been stopped by the spam filter in WordPress.
Pointless Spam
I just had a spam e-mail with the title – Never Pay For Auto Repair
I’m very tempted to reply to say that I don’t pay already, as I don’t have a car.
Perhaps the Funniest Address On A Spam E-Mail
I just had to laugh, when I saw this address on a typical lottery scam e-mail.
From The E-mail Lottery Winner Office Address: 23-31 Huddersfield Row, West Yorkshire United Arab Emirate HD2 5TXR
Tel: +971527819868
Contact Agent: Mr. Frank Anderson
Obviously, West Yorkshire is not in the United Arab Emirate or the United Arab Emirates even.
But the phone code, 971, is in the UAE.
The address and post code obviously aren’t valid.
I’ve checked the headers of the e-mail and it might have come from the UAE.
It did create an early morning titter, though!
The Dyslexic Spammer
I’ve just had two copies of this simple spam message.
Do you need a laon
As it was headed Dear Sir/Madam and both copies were sent to the same male e-mail address, he or she is pretty stupid as well.
Ministry Of Justice Deals It Out to Claims Firms.
This article on the BBC web site, says that the Ministry of Justice has shut down 209 rogue claims firms in the last six months.
This is good news. But I wonder how many people have been involved in more than one firm.
I also would love to see a database published of all those involved. It would be an interesting analysis.
What Is O2 More?
I just received some advertising spam, which said this.
Do you run a UK business with global aspirations? HSBC could help. Ring 08452669781. Terms apply. To stop O2 More text stop to 20502.
I, of course didn’t ring or text either of the numbers.
But if I get another, the ICO will be hearing from me. I will be leaving O2 as well. Especially, as I never registered to receive spam.
Certainly, HSBC has gone on my not do business with list.
Spam From The NSPCC
I’ve just received a series of spam e-mails from the NSPCC.
That’s the last time, they get any money from me!
I tried to unsubscribe, but all it asked me to do was donate.
