How To Give a Pill to a Basset Hound
Of all the dogs we’ve had, we’ve never had one quite so easy to give a pill to as Lizzie, the basset hound! She usually just lies on her back and you drop it over her tongue and then stroke it down.
This perhaps wasn’t the best clip, so I’ll probably try to get a better one at a later date.
I’ve Now Got the One and Other Book
I received Anthony Gormley’s One and Other book on Friday and I’ve now located myself as number 1489. The person I supported, Janet W, is number 1487. It was a bit difficult to find us, as the Plinthers are not in alphabetical order, but the order in which they appeared.
This is the video I took, whilst I was on the Fourth Plinth.
Scotland and London Get the Pope, Suffolk Gets the Tour of Britain!
Today, the Tour of Britain came to Clare, which is a village a few miles from where I live.
I asked one of the local officers about it and he definitely felt we’d got the most entertainment and the better deal.
There was quite a few people on the streets of one of Suffolk’s most pleasant villages, as this video shows.
After the excitement, I went down the pub and had a half of Aspalls, before returning home for lunch.
Looking back on today, I’m rather pleased at how the video has turned out. It’s the first real one, I’ve done since the stroke and it’s a lot better than some I’ve tried. But this was done with my trusty Fuji S5700 and Windows Movie Maker.
On the Plinth
I said earlier that yesterday, I ended up on the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Sqaure.
Whilst I was on the plinth, I took about thirty minutes of video of what I saw around me.
This is the video. Or at least the edited version after taking out some of the most boring bits. There are still plenty of those there, so don’t watch it too often.
If you want to see the official one produced by One and Other, then click here.
How I got to be on the plinth is a complicated story. Let’s say that I came down to support Janet and ended up coming on as a substitute because someone had to cry off at the last minute. And you know how you have to scape the barrel to get anybody sensible at seven in the morning, as all sane and sensible people are in bed.
But it was all great fun and well worth doing. It’s probably not too late to go to their web site and register.
Janet W on the Plinth
Janet W is someone who is also a member of the Yahoo UK-Coeliac list. I went to support her on Sunday when she did her hour on the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square as part of Anthony Gormley‘s One and Other project.
The video shows her on the plinth.

Fun and Games at the Fourth Plinth
This morning I went to London to support an Internet friend who was appearing on the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square. I took a lot of video at seven in the morning and it will be going up soon.
But the twist was, that someone had called off at the last minute, so they went looking for volunteers. As Sir Arnold Bax once said, “One should try everything once, except incest and folk dancing”.
So I accepted and you can see the result here.
I shall post my video in the next couple of days.
Green Woodpecker
According to my Collins Bird Guide, green woodpeckers are shy and wary. But obviously, this juvenile, who I think is a male, isn’t! I took this video on the front drive just outside my office window. He was perhaps four metres away at the furthest.
If you want to know more go to the RSPB site.
When we first moved here about fifteen years ago, I never saw a green woodpecker. Now I usually see one or two every day in the summer months. I suspect that the individual in the video comes most days to eat on the ants in the grass. He’s always in the same place.
Now I have got some decent photos of him, I will be able to check.
A Technical Note – The video was filmed on a Fuji S5700, still/video camera and processed from a .avi file into .wmv using Windows Movie Maker. The latter software is excellent and comes FREE with Windows XP and Vista.
Coeliac Videos
This interesting set of videosfrom the Celiac Disease Centre in the USA is well worth watching.
The Celiac Disease Centerat Columbia University was established within the Department of Medicine at Columbia University in 2001 under the guidance of Peter Green, MD, one of a few recognised experts on coeliac disease in the United States.
The Center’s mission is to redefine the future of coeliac disease and treatment through continuing advances in patient care, research, education and patient advocacy.
This is the way that information from specialist centres will be distributed in the future.
How to Complain
Take a look at this video on YouTube.
Dave Carroll is a musician whose guitar was damaged/broken by United Airlines on a flight to Nebraska. He didn’t get any joy with the airline, so he wrote the song and put it on YouTube.
When I played it, it had over three and a half million hits and it was funny too!
United Airlines have decided to use the video for internal training.
But it does show, how if a company doesn’t act quickly to genuine complaints, then they can be on the end of a very big stick. They should remember too, that most cameras these days have a very professional video mode.
But be careful. My late wife was a barrister, who knew a lot about libel law. It’s why the BBC says allegedly so often!
