The Greenway Is Open Again

The Greenway is now open again after the Olympics and I walked it from Hackney Wick station to Pudding Mill Lane DLR station, taking these pictures as I walked.

I had a coffee at the ViewTube on the way. It’s changed hands, but it’s still as good as ever.

The View Tube Reopens On Saturday

This is good news and now I’ll be able to take a walk along the Greenway and have a coffee.

Why Does It Always Rain On Mondays?

As it’s Monday, the cafe opposite; Eggs Milk Butter, was closed today.

Why Does It Always Rain On Mondays?

So there was no popping across to get a coffee. I just had to take a walk in the rain.

Carluccio’s Or Starbucks?

This is a decision, I have to make every Monday morning at the Angel.

Normally, if I want a coffee early in the morning, as I’m off to the shops, I go to the cafe opposite.

But on Monday they are shut and I also generally go to the Angel to get my provisions for the first few days of the week.

So do I go to Carluccio’s or Starbucks for my pre-shopping coffee, whilst I work out what to buy.

For some time, I’ve gone to Starbucks, as it’s close to Waitrose, but recently, I’ve started to use the Carluccio’s a little further away.

Could this be because of all the publicity about Starbucks tax position in the UK?

After all, their coffee is only ten pence more, you get a comfortable seat and friendly staff, the queues are minimal and if you need to use the medical comforts, they are clean and excellent.

It will be interesting to see, how many people change their coffee habits!

Girls Will Be Girls

I took this picture of Milo in the cafe working hard.

She’s actually stamping Eggs Milk Butter on all the takeaway cups.

A Disappointing Starbucks

After Pudding Mill Lane I went to Eastfield to do a bit of shopping in the Marks and Spencer there. I successfully bought the jumper I wanted and some food for tonight.

However, I was not able to buy any coffee.

A Disappointing Starbucks

Because of my stroke and a slightly wonky mouth, I do not drink coffee from cardboard or plastic cups. And that’s all you now get in this branch in Eastfield! They used to have proper mugs before the Olympics.

So I came home thirsty!

But then Eastfield is one of those gluten-free deserts. Now it seems I can’t get a coffee there in Starbucks. I usually drink in one of their stores, as I can have something to eat if I want.

A Discount For Doing The Washing Up

As I often do, I popped over to my local cafe t0 get a coffee.  As I wanted to drink it at home and I took my own mug, they gave me a discount for doing the washing up.

Essex Road On The Up!

I took this picture yesterday of the Essex Road in Islington, as it approaches Balls Pond Road

Essex Road On The Up!

I remember when the area was very run-down in the 1970s, but now it’s on the up, with some quality shops and businesses.

What is missing though, is a decent coffee shop!

Debenhams Drops Stupid Coffee Names

According to this story in the Mirror, Debenhams are to use plain English to describe their coffee.

I suppose it’s their choice, but round here most people know their cappuccinos from their lattes. And I don’t just mean those that went to posh schools or were born outside of Hackney.

Hot Coffee With Cold Milk

I had coffee coming home and it was served hot with cold milk.

I only know one person, who is specific about having their coffee like that and like the train, she has connections to Hull, as she was born and grew up there.

Perhaps it’s a Hullensian thing.
