Allergic To Corned Beef
In the repeat of Dad’s Army this evening, Private Fraser.said that he got out of sevig in the vArmy, because he was allergic to corned beef.
This must be one of the first references to allergies in fiction.
I wonder why it was included
Call That A Bin?
I was watching the Apprentice on BBC1 and one team came up with a bin design.
It may be arrogant to say it, but my bin design of a couple of years ago is better.
Dame Edna Retires
It is being reported that Dame Edna Everage is being retired by Barry Humphries.
Some will think it sad, but then we have a lot of audio and video records to keep us rolling in the aisles.
in fact, these days great acts, never really retire because of this.
Commenting on Television and Radio Programs
I like to comment on BBC programs. But increasingly programs are expecting you to comment via Facebook. Which I won’t join!
What’s wrong with e-mail?
The Four Tops and The Temptations
At present both these iconic sets of soul singers are on BBC Breakfast.
I suspect that once the program moves to Manchester, it will be more difficult to get some stars to go up north.
So why did the BBC decide to move its flagship program, which has the largest number of viewers at that time in the UK?
As it was Blair’s government who decided hey would go, was it punishment for something they said?
The Tube
I watched the first part of this documentary about the London Underground on BBC2 last night and it was fascinating.
The thing that impressed me most, was how a very multi-racial staff acted as a coherent team and stood up so well to the hassle they got.
I shall be watching next week.
Fans Have Asked for Their Money Back After Seeing The Artist
It is being reported that fans are asking for their money back after seeing The Artist, because it’s silent.
It appeared that most of the requests were in Liverpool. Knowing the city well, it was probably a try on or people being funny.
As it was at the Odeon, which is a national chain, I suspect that the cinema staff were less attuned to the quality and nature of the film, than they were in the Barbican.
Where Is The Africa Cup of Nations?
I’ve always enjoyed this football tournament, as I said here.
But this year it’s on Eurosport and the only way to see that is by using Sky. All you get is highlights on ITV4 and that’s not in my guide.
ITV Chooses the Wrong Film
Today on ITV3 at 12:55, you could have watched that glorious film, Carry on Cruising.
Isn’t it rather a bad choice considering the news at the moment? But then ITV doesn’t have a Taste and Tact Department.
The Artist at the Barbican
I went to the Barbican Centre last night to see The Artist.
It was well worth seeing and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
It is very much a feel-good film.
Perhaps, I’m being sentimental, but I also felt it was about how you get over loss. The main character had lost his career because of talking films and was very much on the point of suicide after a downward spiral. He was in the end saved by his dog and another actor, Peppi.
I hope it wins the Oscar for best film, but will this happen as the film is French?
All I want now, is my Peppi to come along.
