The Anonymous Widower

Not Annoyed By Students

As UCH is a teaching hospital, I was always being visited by students, who obviously needed to examine real patients.

I don’t mind this, but others might.  But they’ve obviously got to practice somewhere.

I chatted with one all evening, as she only left at about half past eleven.  It was certainly a better experience, than watching the dreadful TV system.

Horse Racing Leaves the BBC

A sad day!

I enjoy my horse-racing, especially as my late wife and I bred and owned race-horses for nearly thirty years.

I shall still go occasionally, but I doubt I’ll watch it on the television any more.  The reason is adverts. I find them so annoying.

That’s why I must be one of the few people, who has never seen any of Downton Abbey.

I did enjoy the Cheltenham Festival though on Radio 5.

Millions of us are paying for the very silly move to Salford.

Commenting on Television and Radio Programs

I like to comment on BBC programs.  But increasingly programs are expecting you to comment via Facebook. Which I won’t join!

What’s wrong with e-mail?

The Four Tops and The Temptations

At present both these iconic sets of soul singers are on BBC Breakfast.

I suspect that once the program moves to Manchester, it will be more difficult to get some stars to go up north.

So why did the BBC decide to move its flagship program, which has the largest number of viewers at that time in the UK?

As it was Blair’s government who decided hey would go, was it punishment for something they said?

Teen Pregnancies Down

This story is on the BBC’s web site, but it doesn’t appear to be on radio or television.

The latter doesn’t really matter, but the story does.

The Tube

I watched the first part of this documentary about the London Underground on BBC2 last night and it was fascinating.

The thing that impressed me most, was how a very multi-racial staff acted as a coherent team and stood up so well to the hassle they got.

I shall be watching next week.

Where Is The Africa Cup of Nations?

I’ve always enjoyed this football tournament, as I said here.

But this year it’s on Eurosport and the only way to see that is by using Sky. All you get is highlights on ITV4 and that’s not in my guide.

ITV Chooses the Wrong Film

Today on ITV3 at 12:55, you could have watched that glorious film, Carry on Cruising.

Isn’t it rather a bad choice considering the news at the moment?  But then ITV doesn’t have a Taste and Tact Department.

It’s Driving Me Mad

Sometimes things get into your memory and even Google and/or Wikipedia can’t get the reference.

An example is a play, which might have been a Play for Today.  It starred, someone like Leo McKern as Sir Harry, a barrister, who was defending someone who was being tried for rape. He doesn’t get on well with the judge and feels that his client is guilty. So Sir Harry mimics the alleged rapist’s modus operadi and clothes and attacks another young lady in her flat. She then gives evidence and Sir Harry’s client is found not guilty. The judge feels that Sir Harry has been up to his old tricks and accuses him of getting his client off by unfair means. Sir Harry then pulls a gun and shoots the judge dead in his courtroom. The last scene is Sir Harry being led away saying that this will be his greatest case. ‘Sir Harry defends Sir Harry’.

So what am I remembering?

What Is It With ITV And Football?

I’m just watching Peterborough against Sunderland on ITV.  Watching being the key word, as the sound isn’t working properly.

But then ITV has form in providing crap football coverage!
