My New Crap Design Tag

The new WordPress screen has resulted in my bringing in a new Crap Design tag. Click the tag on this post to see the design horrors.

Doing this was not as easy as it used to be, due to WordPress’s new editor design!

So is it back to the future with WordPress?

How Do You Get Rid Of The Beep Beep Boop Screen On WordPress?

Every day, I add my current INR reading to a post in the blog. It is just a simple way to show my results to doctors, dentists and anybody else who needs to know. I’ve also got a couple of researchers looking at the figures for interest, as it shows INR might vary from day to day.

It used to be easy and quick. I just got the page up and then clicked the Edit link on the WordPress toolbar and then the edit screen came up immediately. After typing in the new value, I just clicked Update and that was it.

If I wanted to check the page, I clicked on a View Post link and it replaced edit edit screen. Now it creates another tab in my browser.

What took a couple of seconds now takes a lot longer.

I have better things to do than look at the work of an imbecile.

I suspect the guy who designed this crap was the designer of the chocolate tea-pot.

If my blog wasn’t so big, I’d move it elsewhere!

A Birthday Present From nPower

Saturday is my birthday and I’ve just received this letter from my previous energy supplier nPower, who I left to their own devices some months ago.

Dear Me (They  got my name right!)

As part of npower’s ongoing efforts to ensure our records are up to date, we’ve noticed that there is a credit on the above account. I’d like to apologise for the time it has taken us to identify this; it’s not the kind of service we strive to offer our customers.

Your bank account will be credited with £107.79 within the next 5 working days.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. If you feel that we may be able to help with your energy needs in the future, we’d love to hear from you.

So the money will pay for the small party I’ll be having on Friday night!

These are the sort of surprises I like!

The Viewing Platform At Kings Cross

I came across this viewing platform at Kings Cross.

The pictures show the platform and some of the views.

It’s on the path that leads between Kings Cross Station and Granary Square, by the Regent’s Canal.

Building sites should have more of these!

Wandering Around Kings Cross

I took these pictures as I walked around Kings Cross.

Some of the first pictures were taken from a 390 bus.

Things are certainly happening!

How Does Switching On My LED Lights Warm The Room?

At about 17:30 with the lights off in my living room the temperature was 25.5°C with a humidity of 41%. I switched on the LED lights and by 19:00 the temperature has risen to 25.8°C with a humidity of 42%.

I thought it might have been some external factor, like the weather.

So I then switched the lights off and now the temperature has dropped to 25.3°C with a humidity of 42%.

I suspect Jerry used drivers that are little better than radiant heaters.

A Quote From Baroness Trumpington

She has just said this on the BBC.

If you don’t have a bit of guts, you’re not going to get far in life!

Long may she continue to be so forthright.

Getting Rid Of Useless Foreign Currency

I travel a lot and the small change from my Icelandic holiday is annoying me, as is the monetary detritus from trips to Poland and Scandinavia.

So I have now collected it together, with all the Eurotrash with a value of less than a euro. The total weight is just under half a kilo.

But what to do with it? I searched and found this page, which has a lot of good ways to give it to charity.

I have the money, now I’ll make my choice!

Would We Benefit From More Female Builders?

Over the years I’ve employed about half a dozen or so builders and rarely has progress been at the speed they said they would manage.

Usually, this seems to be because, the exclusively male person in charge, tends to muck up on the project management and some minor mistake causes a major delay in the work.

As the documentary on Crossrail showed some high level project managers in large construction projects are now female.

Could it be that the supposedly superior multi-tasking ability of the female of the species makes them good project managers, when they get the chance, as project management is often effectively juggling several balls with one hand?

Hence the title of this post!

But having been around project management for forty years, my gut instinct says that if more small builders were female-led, we would see an improvement in the performance of the building industry.

The odd fact about builders in my experience, is that whereas builders generally muck something up, decoratprs are usually much better with performance.

Is it because you’re dealing with a craftsman, who likes everything to be as good as possible?

A Design Crime – How Not To Design A Connector

This is the connector to get power and my computer connected to my Samsung Galaxy S5.

How Not To Design A Connector

How Not To Design A Connector

Note the flimsy cover that clips over the orifice.

I doubt that it’ll last the life of the phone.

There is no excuse for crap design! Except perhaps in a piece of sit-upon sanitary ware!

Isn’t it about time, that all mobile devices had the same power connections?
