The End Of the Affair?
With Vicky Pryce being released from jail this morning and Chris Huhne probably to come out too, will this mark the end of the affair?
I doubt it and it will still cause money to be wasted, some of which will have been contributed by taxpayers.
Surely, the solution to this affair, was when Huhne was found guilty of lying to a Court, he should have been banned from driving for life. Perhaps, Pryce should have suffered the same fate, as she was aiding and abetting a convicted criminal to drive.
Perhaps, we need an offence of using a driving licence to commit crime, which should be punishable by a life ban from driving.
Are Politicians Stupid?
I’ve just been reading the legislation proposed in the Queen’s Speech today as reported on the BBC web site.
i can’t be against migrants to this country, as go back a couple of hundred years and half my ancestors were living in fear of their lives in Europe. But it was the sentence in the report that said that in future illegal migrants will not get driving licences, that shocked me.
How can they get them now and has it not been made illegal by Parliament? Obviously, not!
How To Parallel Park
This video has become a YouTube hit.
How Times Change
After C and I did our Sunday morning shopping, one of the first things I would do on return, was to remove the sections of the Sunday Times, we didn’t read.
I still do it, except that the sections I bin are different.
One of the first to go is Driving, as I have little interest these days.
It’s Not Just Cyclists Who Are In Danger
This article in the Standard tonight, says that the police and other government agencies are working together to deal with the problems of HGVs and the cyclists they hit. Here’s the introduction.
A crackdown on unsafe lorries and rogue drivers was launched in London today in a bid to halt the number of cyclists being killed and seriously injured.
Police began conducting “stop and search” patrols after the Government and Transport for London agreed that action was needed to halt the death toll.
But it’s not just cyclists, who are in danger from some of these trucks and their drivers.
As I walked back from the bus stop round the corner tonight, a skip lorry turned left in front of me and crossed my path very closely. The driver had taken the corner very much in a hurry, but at least he’d used his turn indicators, otherwise I might have not been able to ascertain his intentions.
I am always very careful at the junction, as since I have moved here, there have been a couple of serious accidents, one of which resulted in the death of a young girl.
Welcome To Islington
I like this sign.
Let’s hope it cuts road accidents and keeps more drivers out of the streets near me.
An Alternative To Motorway Services
As my old friend was going around the M25 and then down the A3, we’d decided to meet at Cobham and Stock D’Abernon station and go to the Carluccio’s in nearby Cobham.
It was a good choice to make, as there was two hours’ free parking outside of the restaurant and the food was certainly not of Motorway Services standard.
The restaurant also had quite a high percentage of well-turned out ladies amongst the clientele.
So it was a visit worth making!
Busways And Sat-Navs Don’t Mix
This story from Cambridge on the BBC’s web site, shows an idiot, who got his lorry onto the Cambridge Busway.
The driver is apparently blaming his sat-nav. It should be part of the driving test and especially for those, who drive heavy lorries, that you have the ability to read a map and road signs.
On the subject of sat-navs, some couriers and others seem to have difficulty finding my house using them, as they get directed round the back to the mews. So in this case, it probably isn’t the sat-nav, but the data it’s loaded with.
George Osborne Must Be Getting Paranoid
Those on the Left, blame George Osborne for all the country’s troubles.
So he is under the attack in two major stories this morning.
In the first story, it’s Osborne’s comments about convicted manslaughterer; Mick Philpott.
Mr Osborne said a debate was needed about whether the state should “subsidise lifestyles like that”.
But shadow chancellor Ed Balls condemned Mr Osborne’s comments as “a cynical act of a desperate chancellor”
I have a feeling, that most voters in the UK, except those living on benefits with umpteen children would agree with Osborne. But then those in that group, probably wouldn’t have time to vote.
He is also brought to task, by getting into a car, that was illegally parked in a disabled space. Read about it here. It does appear he wasn’t driving,
But a Treasury source said Mr Osborne had been dropped off to buy lunch.
The unmarked police Land Rover was not driven by the chancellor at any point, added the source.
I bet Osborne wished he’d taken the train. But then, those that want to get him, had a go at him when he did.
He must be getting to dread, saying anything or going anywhere!
It seems as if the job of Chancellor of the Exchequer has taken over from that of Home Secretary, as the most vilified job in Government.
But then Theresa May has a great advantage over George Osborne, in that she can be spun for her dress sense, as she was in this double-page story in the Standard last night. George Osborne never got a headline like this.
Theresa May-nia: sharp-suited, well-heeled, the Home Secretary is on fighting form
Perhaps, he should wear a dress!
Jeremy Clarkson Is More Popular Than Hillary Clinton In Iran
This story from the BBC’s web site must be the strangest to come out of Iran in recent months.
It is about how Top Gear is very popular in the country and relates the story of a visit to Kurdistan, by the actor, who dubs our Jeremy into Farsi. Here’s an extract.
The BBC cannot operate freely in Iran, so Top Gear’s popularity is hard to measure. But last year, when PTV dropped an episode to air an exclusive interview with then US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the audience protested bitterly.
I think in some ways that the man or woman on the Teheran omnibus or stuck in the Isfahan traffic jam think about the same things as their equivalemts in New York, Glasgow and Sydney.
Perhaps, Hillary Clinton could be a star in a reasonably priced car to raise her popularity in Iran.
