Twilight Cleans Up At The Razzies

I like this story from the BBC, abpout how the last Twilight film picked up nine awards at the Razzies. Here’s an extract from the story.

The five Twilight films have made a total of $3bn (£1.9bn) at the box office.

Razzies founder John Wilson said the worst thing about the franchise was that “people take it so seriously”.

“I believe that rather than 40 million girls who bought tickets, it was four million girls who bought 10 tickets each,” he added. “That makes me feel better about the American public.”

Kristen Stewart won the award for worst actress, but didn’t have the guts to attend, unlike Halle Berry and Sandra Bullock.

I’ve never seen any of the films, but I have seen their posters on the side of London buses.  Usually, the more posters, the worse the film. Perhaps Skyfall was an exception, as I enjoyed that film.

The HS2 Eco-Report

The Sunday Times is reporting the Eco-report for HS2 stretched to 50,000 pages and weighs half-a-ton.

Partly this is due to the fact that Parliament needs a hard copy.

Surely though, that in this case to save a large number of trees, they should receive it electronically.

Cardinal O’Brien In The Doo-Dah

I can’t say I hold a brief for the views of Cardinal O’Brien, as what right does anybody have to deny anybody a proper marriage, be they straight, gay, divorced or widowed.

So I was rather pleased that Stonewall’s bigot of the year, has got dropped in it, from a great height by a former priest and some other complainants. The priest left the priesthood and got married, which probably sums up the real fault of Catholic doctrine. Being denied your instincts, like wanting to have a meaningful relationship with someone that might lead to marriage, surely causes more problems than it solves.

The full story is here on the BBC.

I do fear that if people like O’Brien are choosing the new Pope, what sort of dinosaur will they choose?

Laura Craik Would Have Pleased C

Laura Craik’s fashion article in The Times magazine yesterday would have been right up C’s street, as it was all about colour. C was a barrister and despite this she avoided black as much as she could. Her uniform colour was often dark blue and often her only black was thick tights. I don’t think she actually had a matching set of black bra and briefs though! She certainly never in the forty years I knew her, ever owned a black swimsuit, coat or evening dress.

She always said that colour, helped her to stand out and she’s not the first professional woman, who’s told me that!

But as C would joke, the black she did have, meant she had no problems at funerals.

PPI Pests Annoy A Lift

W all hate those callers trying to sort out our non-existent PPI problems.  If I get one, I give them the number of the mini-cab firm, that fills up my letter-box with junk, as obviously they deserve each other.

according to The Times and The Telegraph, they are even calling the emergency line in the lift at Secure Trust Bank.  Here’s the story in the Telegraph.

It’s A Pig Of A Job, But Someone’s Got To Do It

I saw this story about a pig being used to train firefighters, in The Times, but it is also here in the Daily Mail.

I’m reminded of the time C and myself caught an escaped pony and Suffolk Police turned up as they had had reports of damage to flower beds being caused by the escapee.  At the time, the police used Escort vans for local officers and we almost convinced him to put it in the back to take it to the station.

So perhaps, animal training is something that is now more common with the Fire and Police Services.

The BBC’s Top Story Today

This story about Irish ‘nuns’ caught drinking illegally in Ireland is the most read on the BBC’s web site today.

I suppose the behaviour could be explained as they were Sisters of Charity and the local priest gave his blessing.

Italy Goes To Ireland

Next year, the Giro d’Italia will start on the island of Ireland with three stages.  It’s all here on the BBC.

Knowing the Irish as I do, I think that they’ll have a good party.

They Do Things Big In Las Vegas

This story from Las Vegas shows one of the reasons why I will never go to that dump again. It really is a supremely tacky place, especially if you see it as it gets up in the morning, with the lights off.

I suppose a holiday in Syria might be a bit quieter.

The Bombers From Central Casting

You shouldn’t laugh at bombers, as what they aim to do could be serious. But this team from Birmingham, who have just been found guilty could be part of the plot of Four Lions.

They have given comedians enough ammunition to last for quite a few gigs.

I particularly liked the part, where they raised money from street collections and then lost it by speculating on the Internet in various financial products.
