A Double-Headed Wedding
These two Routemasters were parked at the Angel today.
Is it getting hitched in style or just showing off?
The Definitive View From The New Bus For London
I travelled up to the Angel this morning on a New Bus for London. I sat at the back downstairs looking behind, as depending on what bus fell in behind, I might have made a change.
In the end I had a quick chat with the driver/conductor and he described an incident that could have been serious, due to the ill-thought-out behaviour of a group of pedestrians.
It strikes me that as these buses get more numerous, they might actually improve the safety of pedestrians, if feedback from these all-seeing driver/conductors was fed into the system and this led to better pavements and crossing points in the places, where near misses have been observed.
My Eyesight May Be Improving
I was entering Starbucks at the Angel, one day this week, when I startled as something low down on the left passed me in the doorway. At first I thought it could be a small child or perhaps a dog running in from the street.
But all it turned out to be was a bubble from the machine outside the shop next door.
So my eyesight can’t be as bad, as I think it is.
Waiting For A New Bus for London
I was waiting for a 38 or 56 bus at the Angel, this afternoon and as I had a couple of moderately-heavy bags from Waitrose and the stop was busy, I waited about twenty metres away from the stop, in case a New Bus for London arrived. I wasn’t the only one and when a bus did arrive, we all formed a secondary queue and got on at the back door, when the conductor beckoned. If one hadn’t have arrived, we’d have all waited until the main queue had shortened and then joined the first bus.
I think we’re just going along with the designer’s plans, as the New Bus was quickly on its way. It will be interesting to see how much New Buses for London save on journey times.
Both Ways By New Bus For London
I did a quick trip to the Angel and it was both ways on a New Bus for London. In both cases I saw the bus coming and waited a couple of minutes to catch it. I wasn’t the only one either.
On the way up, I heard a rumour that another ten buses are on their way and they will be on route 73.
Whether this is true, I would have no idea, but it is another route like route 38, that is operated by Arriva.
A New Bus for London Reflected In The Angel Building
I took this picture yesterday from a New Bus for London.
The Angel Building was nominated for the Stirling Prize in 2011.
The Angel Was Like A Morgue
I went up to the Angel as I usually do and it was like a morgue. There was only myself and one other in the queue in Starbucks and I got my preferred window seat. I didn’t see anything worth photographing for the blog.
Waitrose was empty too and I think the staff were lonely, as many talked to me, whilst they were stacking shelves and looking for items.
There weren’t any chuggers or smokers outside the shopping centre!
And of course the bus was virtually empty coming home.
Perhaps, some big event has finished and everybody has left. The bus doing press-ups has gone too!
A Coeliac Compares Islington and Highbury Corner Waitroses
I have two Waitroses close to me and both are just a single bus ride from the stop on my corner. The Islington store is at the Angel and the Highbury Corner one is just a littleWaitrose across the road from Highbury and Islington station.
I can get most things I need in the Highbury Corner store, except for the goats’ milk and yoghurt, that I like. They even have the Genius Gluten Free bread and a good selection of gluten-free cakes and biscuits.
The bigger store at Islington, is always a bit short and the bread is sometimes non-existent. They do generally stock some gluten-free beer, which I haven’t checked for at Highbury Corner.
And Now The Bouncy Bus
The Czech House is at the Angel and this bus is outside.
It is an interesting piece of engineering art by David Cerny. I like it a lot better than some of his other works.
I suspect some fans of Bristol buses will find it sacrilege.
The New Buses Are Back
I saw two at the Angel today and actually took one home.
Note that every one is now advertising a London show. They only seemed to disappear for the rehearsal of the Olympic Opening Ceremony. I suspect each one is advertising a particular show and will the cast of each be getting out and doing a turn. After all London is the theatre capital of the world.
