Nigel Farage Speech: Persistent Offenders Would Face Life Sentences
The title of this post, is the same as that of this article in The Times.
This is the sub-heading.
The Reform UK leader pledged more prison spaces, deportation of criminals and zero-tolerance policing as part of a six-week Lawless Britain campaign drive.
These three paragraphs give more detail about what criminals can expect and how much it will cost.
Every shoplifter would be prosecuted and stop and search powers used to “saturation point” under Nigel Farage’s pledge to make Reform UK the “toughest party on law and order this country has ever seen”.
He said that a Reform government would crack down on prolific offending by imposing life sentences on those who commit three or more offences.
The Reform leader set out plans to spend £17.4 billion to cut crime by half in the first five years if the party wins the next general election — an annual cost of £3.5 billion.
At least hanging and flogging aren’t mentioned. But he does suggest sending one of our worst child murderers to El Salvador and that Britain would leave the European Convention on Human Rights.
This paragraph says how he will pay for this law and order policy.
Farage said Reform would pay for the £17.4 billion law and order crackdown by ditching HS2 and net zero policies — money which has also been pledged for other policies.
I have just done a little calculation about how much offshore wind power should be commissioned by January 2029, which will likely be before the expected 2029 General Election.
- In October 2023, there was 15,581 MW of operational offshore wind.
- Currently there are 10,842 MW under construction, that should be commissioned by January 2029.
- There is also 2,860 MW of smaller wind farms, which have yet to be started that should be commissioned by January 2029.
- That all totals up to 29, 285 MW or 29.3 GW.
- Another 12 GW of offshore wind is scheduled to be commissioned in 2029 and 2030.
Currently, as I write this we are generating 29.3 GW from all sources.
I asked Google AI how much solar energy we will have in January 2029 and got this answer.
In January 2029, the UK is projected to have a significant amount of solar energy capacity, with the government aiming for 45-47 GW of total solar power by 2030.
Let’s assume the sun only shine half the time and say 20 GW on average.
We’ll also have 4.4 GW from Hinckley Point C and Sizewell B, as all other nuclear will have been switched off.
I asked Google AI how much energy storage we’ll have by January 2029 and got this answer.
In January 2029, the UK is projected to have around 120 GWh of battery energy storage capacity, according to a European report. This is part of a broader goal to reach 400 GWh by 2029 for the EU-27, with the UK contributing significantly to this total.
If there’s say another Great Storm, the dozens of interconnectors between the UK and Europe should keep us all going.
It looks to me that by January 2029, we’ll be substantially on the way to being powered by renewables.
Most of the net zero money will have been spent and we’ll be almost at net zero.
Phase One of High Speed Two has a target date of 2030, and I suspect that the engineers working on the project will get trains running between Old Oak Common and Birmingham Curzon Street stations before the General Election, just because if NF’s going to cancel the project, they might as well do their best to get him to lose the election.
So at best he might get a year’s savings from stopping High Speed Two, but an unfinished High Speed Two, will be a joke on NF and make him look a complete laughing stock!
Thoughts On The Lucy Letby Case
I was 76 last week and I can recall few cases as horrific as the Lucy Letby case.
In East Kent Maternity Deaths: Babies Might Have Survived With Better Care, I put forward my views about how we can identify systematic problems in healthcare, whether it is down to serious malpractice or just incompetence.
Violence Against Women
The BBC is rightly having a campaign against domestic violence and violence against women in general.
It also appears to me, that women seem to get killed and attacked, a lot more than they did a couple of decades ago.
Is there too much violence against women in TV dramas, so men with small brains think it is acceptable? Surely, it is also wrong to have a TV drama called Killing Eve?
I have only watched a couple of TV dramas or films, in the last couple of years; Some Like It Hot and SAS Rogue Heroes.
Qassem Soleimani
Yesterday, The Times had an article, which was entitled Rising stars: Twenty faces to look out for in 2020.
I read the article on my phone and it was a good read.
One of those people mentioned was Qassem Soleimani
He was certainly somebody to look out for and I wondered what he would get up to next!
I don’t have to wonder anymore.
This article on the BBC is entitled Qasem Soleimani: US kills Iran Quds Force leader, Pentagon confirms.
Apparently, the killing was on the direct orders of President Trump.
He obviously hasn’t read about the Greek Monster, where when Heracles cut off one head another appeared.
I certainly fear for the hostages caught up in this Iranian mess!
Trump is staggering blindly towards a disaster!
How Many Believe The Saudis About The Death Of Jamal Khashoggi?
I certainly don’t!
But Donald Trump does!
But then Trummkopf likes dictators like Putin and Fatty The Third!
When Will The United States Learn That Guns Kill People?
Trump may blame mental health for the shootings in Florida, but then anybody can vere from their normal safe state to a dangerous one!
Republique Remembers Charlie
One of the reasons I went to Paris was to go to the Place de la Republique to pay my respects after the Charlie Hebdo shooting.
Like my father, I am a great believer in free speech and agree totally with Voltaire.
I do not agree with what you have to say, but I’ll defend to the death your right to say it.
Unfortunately criticism is now seen in many countries and organisations as severe disloyalty and could even suffer the ultimate punishment,
What Do You Do With The Likes Of Roberts And Evans?
I remember the day, when Harry Roberts shot dead the policemen in Shepherds Bush, as it was a Friday and I was working behind the bar in the Merryhills pub in Oakwood. It left a rather sombre mood to the evening, as everybody read the story in the paper.
That is nearly fifty years ago and we now have the problem of what to do with Roberts.
We also have all the arguments about Ched Evans, and whether he should play football again, after release from a sentence served for rape.
If it was up to various vociferous minorities, then the likes of Roberts and Evans, along with masses of other criminals serious or even petty, would be incarcerated for ever.
Some prisoners need to be locked up permanently, and without all the facts, I would never say who these people are.
But really, if we lock even more people up, I feel I have a right to protest about the waste of my taxes.
In some ways, what I dislike most about prison, is that it appears to totally fail in preparing prisoners to return as decent members of society. If a school had the educational performance of the average prison, it would be rightly closed down.
If you read Lord Ramsbotham‘s book, Prisongate, you also realise that quite a few prisoners are suffering from diseases such as dementia, which have rendered them unlikely to be a danger to society. Surely humanity says that these people are better in the care of their families if possible.
But then to some people vengeance is all important, and capital punishment should be applied regularly as it is in Iran, China and the United States.
A Memorial To Lee Rigby
There has been discussion on the BBC and an article on their web site about a memorial to Lee Rigby.
The only real memorial will be for something like his murder never to happen again.
All parties should work for that aim.
Spain Is Becoming No Place To Hide For Criminals
The BBC is reporting this morning about Operation Captura, which is leading to the arrest of British criminals hiding in Spain and other places.
There is also this report on Sky.
We are obviously getting success in finding and locking up some of the worst of the worst.
But also this story appears on the BBC. Here’s the first paragraph.
A man wanted in connection with the murder of his 21-year-old wife in Bradford is believed to have left the country, police have said.
It is reported that he’s probably hiding in Pakistan. I suppose that means, there is no chance he’ll be brought to justice.
We really must sort our relationship with that troubled state and especially, a minority of its citizens, who feel they can carry on, as they might in certain areas of their homeland.
