About This Blog
What this blog will eventually be about I do not know.
But it will be about how I’m coping with the loss of my wife and son to cancer in recent years and how I manage with being a coeliac and recovering from a stroke. It will be about travel, sport, engineering, food, art, computers, large projects and London, that are some of the passions that fill my life.
And hopefully, it will get rid of the lonely times, from which I still suffer.
Why Anonymous? That’s how you feel at times.

Just heard her talking to Russell Fuller on BBC Radio 5. She’s so media savvy and gets them on her side. Just like Dina Asher Smith, who went to the same school. George Russel’s teacher also said that about him.
I would feel nothing demotivates anybody like a bad press. Someone seems to be teaching the youngsters how to deal with the media, so they can’t be cannon fodder for the tabloids nand social media.

She attributes her self-confidence to her Chinese mother “““I think the confidence comes from just inner belief, my mum comes from a Chinese background, they have very good self-belief. It’s not necessarily about telling everyone how good you are, but it’s about believing it within yourself. I really respect that about the culture.”. Anyone who repeats this on social media quickly has ‘racist’ and ‘stereotyping’ screamed at them.

I also feel her school has something to do with it. I know a retired teacher, whose granddaughter attends the school and says it is something special. The media-savvy Dina Asher Smith also attended the school and you can certainly see similarities in how they deal with the media. But in Dina’s case, it could be because her cousin is Garth Crooks. But as she’s a few years older than Emma, she certainly set an example, as I have heard Dina sometimes goes back to the school.
For myself, my mother was from a Huguenot family and well-educated due to a scholarship to one of the leading girls grammar schools in London. Nowadays, she would probably have gone to a top University, but in the 1930s that was impossible, so her mathematical ability got her a job in wages in Dalston. But she passed on her mathematical ability to her eldest child; me!
But I also had superb maths teaching at my grammar school.
