These improvements are promised in Wikipedia.

  • Step-free access between street level and all platforms via a new footbridge with stairs and two lifts
  • Platforms 2–4 extended to enable 10-car trains to stop
  • Improved passenger facilities including a new canopy on platform 4, along with information and security systems.

There is still work to do.

Acton Main Line Station – 16th April 2019

These pictures were taken at Acton Main Line station.

The station certainly looks to be advanced enough, to fit in  with Crossrail opening within a year, as I wrote about in Crossrail Service To Reading On Track For December Opening.

According to the Wikipedia entry for Crossrail, Acton Main Line station will have four trains per hour (tph) between Heathrow Terminal 4 and Abbey Wood stations, when Crossrail opens.

If the Western section of Crossrail opens in December 2019, would Acton Main Line station get a service of four tph between Heathrow Terminal 4 and Paddington?

That would certainly meet the standard Transport for London/Merseyrail preferred frequency of at least four tph in a station!

Crossrail To Reading In December 2019

As current rumours are that Crossrail will open in December to Reading, it looks like the station will be usable.

It is planned that Acton Main Line station will have a train every fifteen minutes.

Before Crossrail – Acton Main Line

A Very Draughty Station – Rating 4/10

Acton Main Line station is not an attractive one and I certainly found it very draughty today.

This is a Google Map of the station.

Acton Main Line Station – Downloaded 7th July 2015

It is a station that will be rebuilt for Crossrail and their plans are comprehensive.  They say this.

Crossrail is building a new Acton Main Line station just to the south of the existing building on the junction of Horn Lane and Friary Road with a location and orientation that creates a new station forecourt east of the station and a new space to the rear.

With four trains an hour under Crossrail, you won’t have to do what I did today and catch a bus to get away from the area.

I think Acton Main Line shows how areas around Crossrail stations will benefit.
