Public Inquiry Into Northumberland Line Due To Open This Week

The title of this post, is the same as that of this article on the News Post Leader.

It is also a good summary of where the various councils are with the reopening of the Northumberland Line.

The article says that work should start next summer and trains will run in 2024.

  1. Words fail me that we need a public enquiry just more money being wasted and fees to lawyers and it won’t change the outcome no wonder everything costs so much in this country and takes so long. The line is there its in daily use so why does it need any permissions except maybe planning on areas outside of NRs boundaries.

    • I suspect the law says there must be a public enquiry for this type of project.

  2. I must say there seems to be strange process going on here. I understand about changes arising from passenger operation (new stations and modifications to existing stations) but otherwise it all seems a bit unnecessary.

  3. I would agree, but if there was no public inquiry, I suspect the anti-rail bigrade would get the project cancelled.
