Stadler Reports ‘Best Year’ Since IPO

The title of this post, is the same as that of this article on Railway Gazette.

This is the first paragraph.

Stadler has reported record orders and earnings before tax for the 2021 financial year.

And these are a few statistics.

  • Orders were up by 28%.
  • Revenue was up 18 %.
  • Earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) was up 43 %.
  • EBIT margin rose to 6·2%.

Overall group profits was slightly down on the previous year due to exchange rate losses.

There is a note of caution.

However, it cautions that it is unlikely to achieve its target EBIT margin of 8 to 9% in 2023 as previously forecast, predicting instead that this would be achieved by 2024-25.

Overall the company is doing well and certainly producing the best trains in Europe.

  1. 745’s are certainly one of the better units of recent years with very comfy and spacious interior. There reliability hasn’t been the best though but have to say they would have made a far more cost effective solution than IEP’s.

    • Unfortunately the 745 is currently certified for a max of 100mph (good enough for GEML), where most intercity routes need 125mph.

      I think other members of the FLIRT family can do 125mph, but I suspect the 745 would need modifications to achieve this.

      I agree the in train experience of the 745 is better than the various class 800 series IEP/IET.

      • I had a chat, with one of Greater Anglia drivers, who had been out to Switzerland to help Stadler with things like cab and driver’s console design. Stadler certainly used every skill to get their first UK trains as right as possible.

        He told me that both the 745 and 755 trains were designed to be capable of running at 200 kph.

  2. A very close relative of the class 745 is the SBB Giruno EC 250 derived from the Stadler Flirt series of trains.It is capable of 250 Kmh/150 mph.Like the class 745 it is a low floor train.
