One-Hour Covid Test Approved For Rollout

The title of this post, is the same as that of this article in The Times.

This article is more than the title as it details four testing methods, currently being rolled out.

After reading this article, I would not be surprised to see an affordable COVID-19 testing device being developed and available for non-professional use in the coming months.

Getting it right, will bring the team so much of a financial reward, they’ll make Dyson look like pauper. No wonder organisations like Cambridge University, Imperial College, big pharmaceutical companies and hedge funds are backing development.

As these tests are often about measuring the intricate properties of both human and virus DNA, I wonder how many other collateral benefits will aid diagnosis of diseases like cancer.

  1. Taken to the extreme this could be the beginning of the medical device Dr McCoy used on Star Trek !

While I reckon devices for taking ones temperature 🤒 could become standard fitting especially in airports and international rail stations.

  2. Many of these things lead to many more discoveries. I am also aware of a drug which is though in different circumstances to prevent one of the complications of covid from happening; I don’t know if it is one of the drugs being tested – certainly interferon and interleukin are being tested for covid.

I hope the vaccine is out soon – or that I can get on a stage 4 trial when they come around, because the outlook for me with covid isn’t great. I have spoken to people who have CLL and have had covid, it has been a long long journey and long time in ICU mostly.

  3. In the US we already have a 15 minute test from Abbott Laboratories. I’m glad to say I tested negative. I think you are wrong about financial reward. There will be massive pressure to give any vaccine away at cost. Johnson and Johnson has already said if its vaccines works it will do just that.

    • One of the tests talked about in The Times is the Abbot Laboratories test.

In terms of the financial and academic and scientific reward, I was more thinking about the researchers. As someone, who sold a software company for $128,000,000 in 1985, I feel I know a bit about working extremely hard, motivation and getting financial rewards.
