Progress At The New Platforms At Waterloo – 2nd February 2019

I took these pictures of the so-called orchestra pit at Waterloo station and the walkway to the South Bank.

I think that it could be impressive.

  1. The underground entrance is the old entrance that was below the Shell Centre development on York Road and closed to allow buildings above to be demolished and rebuilt.

Alas the only improvement will be the replacement of Centre fixed staircase with a middle escalator. Advantage of rebuilding was not used to install lift access from street or improve accessibility of platforms below which could have made Waterloo fully accessible to Bakerloo and Northern lines .

It’s expected that the reopening of Waterloo International tube links will make Waterloo and City Line accessible thus together with recently opened entrance at Bank Station the Waterloo and City Line will be the first fully accessible line !
